Due to a few parts being out of stock, I have a custom build at my local pc store that's been on hold for ages.

Been waitng for the I7 11700F (no onboard gfx)to come in, its on backorder.

Im wondering would it be a waste of money to get the I7 11700 (has gfx) instead.

If my display is plugged into the GPU then I'm never gonna use the CPU graphics am I?

correct, afaik if your monitor is plugged into your GPU then the integrated gpu on your cpu won't be utilized at all. only time it gets used is when you plug in your monitor on your motherboard.

Windows 10 can see both iGPU and dGPU. I was using Intel QuickSync while the display is connecting to the dGPU but it is not intuitive and not that useful since useful GPU processing are almost all proprietary. Windows 11 might change that with its OS level GPU compute API but may not.

However, I am curious with the dilemma since Intel doesn't price its CPU with iGPU that much differently than one without. Its CPU strategy is basically all iGPU all the time. The non-iGPU CPU might even be pricier at the retail because Intel makes so few of them and they supposedly can run cooler.

The only use for the iGPU when you have a dGPU is :

    * Driving a second monitor with it to offset some VRAM usage to the iGPU
    * Easier troubleshooting if you have issues with the dGPU, i.e. no signal output, bad BIOS flash on a GPU without dual BIOS, or things like that. Can be useful when you're in a bad spot.

Otherwise there's no reason to pay for it, although the price diff isn't a show stopper. I would not wait for the F variant just to save a few bucks.

One thing that is good to know: DAZ is only using two cores when you are setting up the scene. That means you don't want more cores, you want as high clock speed as possible + an Nvidia GPU for rendering iRay.
