Hi everyone,
Sometimes when I download obj files it lets me add different shaders to different places in the model.
Other obj just let me add a single shader to the entire model.
Is there any way to edit the file to be able to add several shaders to different zones?
August 15, 2019 at 5:29 PM #1203957Hmm....that's a really good question.
My guess is no. Well...not unless you know how to import and open the object in another program and you know how to do 3D modeling.
Some object have more "surface" because this is how the other modeled and make the object in the first place.
You can always see how many "surface" (or section. Call it like you want) an object is made of by clicking on the object in the scene tab and then going in the "Surface tab".
( If you don't have that tab already display in your work space, click in the menu on {Windows --> Panes --> Surfaces} )You can only apply one shader and one texture for each individual part of an object. If you only see one part, that mean that the author made it's object from a single block. So only one shader can be applied on that object as a whole. If that's the case, then i'm afraid your only solution is to "edit" the texture file to make and fit whatever look you want to object. But it require a lot of work and picture file editing.
Unless....there IS an easy way to break and creat part of an object i am not aware of.
Most old items back then where made like this. In one block. More recent one today have usualy more parts. Which allow people to apply different shader and texture on different part of an object and create like this more special effect and different texture.
I'm sorry i couldn't help you more. Maybe someone else here can.
August 15, 2019 at 5:46 PM #1203970@Checkit1414 YES! That is exactly what I meant, add more Surface.
I'm sorry if I wasn't clear, I don't speak English. If there is any way to add more surfaces using other programs, which ones would they be?

I've only scratched the surface of the Geometry editor tools maybe 3 or 4 time. And it was to delete parts of a prop i didn't want.
I'll be checking your tutorial video you have linked and if i ever need more info, you'll be hearing from me in the future.
Cheers! -
