With things settling down around here (or we're all just tired of it), how about a bit of retro? This evening it's the Kinks. They where a prolific group, producing some great stuff for just over 35 years. I fondly remember 'Lola' and 'Victoria', a couple of my favourites. I also remember the controversy that Lola caused and the talking to that my Mom gave me and my sister after it came out.

@ethiopia Great idea for a neutral, wind down chat. My taste in music is wide ranging.

I love old music from the twenties up to the eighties. Are you a fan of T-Rex?

I absolutely love Marc Bolan (RIP) Turns out his anniversayy (gone too soon) falls on my birthday.

I Recently discovered a group from Montreal called "Men I Trust". The female lead and airy vocals reminds me a lot of Doloris O'Riordan(sniff* sniff*), of the Cranberries

Some evenings I'll wallow in remembrance of a few of the greats we've recently lost, Tom Petty, Aretha Franklin and Christine McVie.

@ethiopia I loved Dolores... And the Cranberries. MY favourire song being ''I Can't Be With You''
So many people don't understand what it's about and assume it's about a broken romance, but it tells the tale of a woman whose partner has passed away...

Here's a cover of 'Rosanna' (Toto) that's spectacular...

Sting's "A Brand New Day" is about rekindled love and is hopeful and upbeat, I love it.

Then there's "Lucky Man" from The Verve. I find it hauntingly melodic.

I was a huge fan of Emerson, Lake and Palmer and got to see them live in the 70's. "Honky Tonk Train Blues" knocks my socks off. He sure could pound those keys!

My bestest and mostest favouritist group-if-I-could-only-have-one is Steely Dan.

Saturday night seems so long for me now. Right now it's Sunday afternoon here in Melbourne. Right now I'm watching 24 (as I've been rewatching this show).

I spend sometime yesterday listening to some music from the 90s, as I've been thinking about my favourite Australian albums (as I'm planning on writing a post on some social media)

@ethiopia Tom Pettty, Free Falling is one of my faves. I love Aretha too. Also, Roberta Flack; the First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. Plus Dorothy Moore; Misty Blue.

Last Christmas my wife took me to see Burton Cummings (The guess Who) the day before New Years. I almost pissed myself it was so great. He had so much fun he promised to come back same time this year. We bought tickets the second they went on sale. In his late 70's he still belts it out.

Tom Petty's "A higher Place" and the line,
"I remember walking with her in town,
her hair was in the wind.
I gave her my best kiss and she gave it back again."
Takes me to the first date with the girl I married 44 years ago.*sigh*

There's so much great music that winds through your life and when you hear a song, takes you back to some magic moment. I have a few thousand on a thumb drive for my car. I don't drive often and I don't think I've heard the whole thing.

Lola is great. I was five when it was released.
Didn't understand a word, as here in Germany kids didn't start to learn English until they were 10 yrs old.
I got a Hot Wheels car for my 6th birthday that was called the LOLA GT70 and I remember wondering why it was named after that song. LOL!

Anyway my absolute favorite Kinks song is this:

The Chocolate Watchband made a great cover of it:

And here my favorite Chocolate Watchband song.

Ahhh the 60's. I still have a car from then. It has a choke, carburetors and no power anything.
I grew up in the smaller motor city across the river from Detroit...Windsor. Music was HUGE and Motown was big then.
