Hi i was working on a skin shader and i updated it wrongly. now all my works turned red weird thins. can i downgrade or do you have any suggestion about that? thanks!
February 25, 2022 at 8:44 PM #1779928I was just reading the beta thread at Daz forum, and saw some complaints about exactly the same issue. I didn't really see anyone mention a fix for this.
As I write this, I'm waiting for the 4.20 distro to finish downloading so I can test it out.As far as downgrading, there is no way to do this unless you have saved the previous install package; Daz does not offer links to legacy builds (tsk tsk, shame on them!)
HOWEVER... I'll just leave this here 🙂
https://mega.nz/file/i1AVAKYY#kTeCJ5Vi_DjXPE3jZLI9NfKo80WjyjAP3llvuAxY4MAI always save the install package out of DIM downloads folder so I have it handy. You never know when they break something and you need to downgrade.
Also, you can have many Studio installations - DIM will always install the Release version to
C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4
but you can then rename this to anything you like, such as
C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4_4_15_0_30
and then when you go to install the latest release through DIM, it will install to a fresh \DAZStudio4 folder.Note that it's a virgin install, so you'd have to replace all your plugins, and any other modifications you made in the program folder.
My Strategy:
Before updating, I COPY the \DAZStudio4 folder, and rename the copy as I mentioned above, leaving the original in place... THEN, I update via DIM, so that it overwrites the current "legit" installation. That way, \DAZStudio4 has the latest release, AND all the plugins in place.
After a while, I have quite a collection of working installations I can use at will, in case something is funny, or I want to compare a feature or performance:

I'll write back here if I run into a red skin problem, and figure anything out.
I noticed there's updates to
Genesis 8 Male Starter Essentials
Genesis 8 Female Starter Essentials
Default Resources for DAZ Studio 4.20+
as well as the update to v4.20, so maybe there's an issue there.March 1, 2022 at 3:41 PM #1780982Amber, I had to zap my 4.20 since it's absolutely useless. Can these files you shared be installed through DIM or can I only unzip them and use then "as is? I am not sure about how to proceed.
March 1, 2022 at 7:06 PM #1781039the DIM installer for 4.16 is in there, drop the IM00013176-02_DAZStudio416Win64bit.zip into DIM downloads folder, refresh, and install.
If you don't know where your downloads folder is, open DIM, click the gear in top-right corner, click Advanced Settings... and go to Downloads tab. The first link Package Archive is where to drop DIM zip files. In the future, you can always save anything downloaded from DAZ by going to that folder and copying the zip files from there. Just be sure to uncheck the box Install After Download on the Ready To Download tab, and uncheck Delete Package Once Installed on the Ready To Install tab.
March 1, 2022 at 8:03 PM #1781051The 4.16 gets deleted as soon as I refresh. O_oOkay got it... I had to do this offline. Silly me.
Thanks again for providing us with a 4.16, that's a real lifesaver 🙂March 1, 2022 at 11:42 PM #1781092@solomongrundy No problem fam...

Thanks, for your efforts @Amber!
March 3, 2022 at 10:27 AM #1781410I usually wait a decent while before updating Daz as they always seem to screw something up with new releases.
March 3, 2022 at 11:24 AM #1781417Yeah and this time they didn't just screw the pooch. They screwed their way through the whole kennel.
March 8, 2022 at 3:13 AM #1782875@solomongrundy I believe the PostgreSQL is still the same, I don't recall an update to that (otherwise I would have saved it out :p)
You could always log in with DIM and see if a newer version appears for you, the SQL should always be most current (it's made by actual developers and basically never breaks :p )
March 8, 2022 at 4:36 AM #1782895I've had any issues with the skins, my problem was with some models eyes. It seems to from some vendors. My work around is to use another models' eyes. Not sure if anyone else has that problem. Nor have I looked on the forums.
March 8, 2022 at 9:03 AM #1782931@Amberkat in that case I should be good. I'm keeping an eye on the beta thread for 4.20, it looks like your profile picture, you know, with the flames everywhere and the guy saying it's fine. 😀
March 8, 2022 at 10:05 AM #1782943That's Pyro from Team Fortress 2... the sickest, funnest class to play!
That's actually an SFM render, but SFM is hair pulling, brain meltingly horrible to work with, so I'll stick with the mildly infuriating Daz.
