I have been seeing quite a few MD models uploaded as freebies, with scant documentation.
I take it these can be used in DS, but I am wondering how?How best to install?
Which base character would they be suitable for?
Are they rigged?
Do they have morphs? In layman's 'Janet & John' style explanations, please?
Thanks.

October 3, 2018 at 11:26 PM #787330There's no easy way to do it.
Method A:
In marvelous designer load your base character (lets say G8F) as an avatar (export from Daz3D as an .obj). Once you've managed to get the dress to drape properly in MD (not necessarily an easy task since the clothes aren't likely made for G8F) export the clothes as .obj and import to say Blender (or similar) to fix the UVs then export again and import into Daz Studio. Now run the transfer utility to rig the clothes (there's tutorials on youtube for that).Method B:
In marvelous designer load your base character (lets say G8F) as an avatar (export from Daz3D as an .obj). Once you've managed to get the dress to drape properly in MD import your posed and morphed character as a morph target for the avatar. Now you can export the clothes and they will perfectly fit your current morph and pose. Repeat for every morph/pose combination you want to use the clothes for.I've personally used method B but it doesn't provide much re-usability as you're tied down to a specific morph/pose combo.
Hope this is some help. :/
October 4, 2018 at 4:22 AM #787562I tinkered a bit with this, and mostly used method B, but my issue the clothes always broke apart in dforce, so i gave up. But if you manage to do it, and are able to make a good dforce ready one, let us know how! 🙂

That clarifies the situation very nicely.

October 4, 2018 at 2:56 PM #788140@eelgoo, there's a bunch of youtube videos about making clothes in MD for Daz, Sickleyield has done a few. The good ones that I've seen have utilised zbrush as well, to get morphed wrinkles baked in. It's a lot of work.
October 4, 2018 at 3:57 PM #788215TBH I am not so much interested in the creation process, more if they are easily usable within DS, which it appears they aren't.

Usable in DS, yes, easily, not typically. I've made a few things using MD and Zbrush and they get in just fine. The super hard part is rigging it for the various body types. That said, I have yet to get an outfit I've made to act anywhere close to commercial daz outfits.
October 4, 2018 at 7:54 PM #788445Well, I suppose there is always a hope some talented scripter, someone like River Soft Art for instance, might come up with a script to automate / streamline the process.
Even then though there will probably still be an issue with adequate morphing facilities.
Fit Control will be your friend then, I suppose.🙂
October 4, 2018 at 8:30 PM #788471My memory sux but a bit ago a member sent me a dress to bet a test for them. I found slight seam flaw and they reworked it.
I ran a few poses and textures after that and as far as I could tell it was fine.
Ive considered messing with it bit I only have a few ideas for clothes and am not sure I want to invest the effort for the pay off.
October 5, 2018 at 4:04 AM #788891It'll depend how they're made. It's easy enough to export a daz model to MD to use for the design which means bringing them back into DS is as easy as re-importing the mesh (though you're better taking it through some other software to refine the mesh). If they've just been designed on the MD default models, they aren't going to fit a DAZ model without work
April 18, 2022 at 10:51 AM #1797311OK necro time! 😉
Has the situation changed at all in the past 3-4 years?

I followed the tutorial on the comments in this page and it worked great. But the clothing was turned to obj and fitted to g8 from the start

April 18, 2022 at 7:41 PM #1797477A great deal of the clothing that is currently sold now started as MD meshes. You can often tell because of the mesh design. The generated meshes are usually triangle based. Not tris within quads...rather tris arranged in a circular or semi-circular fashion. The meshes tend to look very nice in a static pose. However, the design can sometimes be problematic when being morphed or animated. At least in my experience. I tend to either convert a design I like into quads or build a new mesh inspired by the shape.

Marvelous designer can export OBJ sequence of the simulation.
Whit the script Animorph, yo can re-import the simulation to daz. (Big espace in Gb, coz any frame is a obj: Then, if the sequence have 500 frames, you have 500 .obj... 😀 )
https://github.com/versluis/animmorphThe load time is good, or boring if is large sequence..Better, export alembic and go out of Daz...
