November 12, 2025 at 9:12 PM #2152758Is this a joke? I'm not getting it.
November 12, 2025 at 9:32 PM #2152759it's not a joke it's a serious question
November 12, 2025 at 10:37 PM #2152766In that case I think peanut butter lasts up to nine months in the fridge after opened. It's supposed to be safe to eat a long time after the "best by" date. If it's gone rancid you'll taste it. I'd be more worried about the calories, salt, and unsaturated fat in it.
November 12, 2025 at 11:41 PM #2152775I've never refrigerated peanut butter and never check dates. It doesn't usually last more than a few months because it's my main cycling food.
November 13, 2025 at 1:05 PM #2152853I lived in Texas for 3 years - wouldn't eat that at all by choice.
Also their chocolate is really not a patch on the likes of Cadbury [ although I gather that the UK has changed the ingredients to match the US - so even that institution is going down the drain].
🙂November 13, 2025 at 2:09 PM #2152856Can confirm Cadbury has gone to shite. Have given up buying their chocolate as it just tastes like crap American chocolate now.

November 13, 2025 at 10:57 PM #2152894Am wondering about the usage of the British idiom 'shite'. Is it a more polite or acceptable version of 'shit'? Is there a different meaning?
Here in the GWN we have a couple of French explicatives that have crept into general use.
'ST' and 'Tabernac', sometimes 'Taberwit'. There's also 'chalic'.
They're pronounced estee, tabernac and colis. They all have something to do with the church. It's funny/odd/weird that the English swear using sex while the French swear using the church. I lived in Quebec for five years and still don't get it.GWN-Great White North.
November 14, 2025 at 2:21 AM #2152902Back during covid and pre war I stocked up on lots of random food that had long term storage capabilities and long expiration dates. I still have some left over and tossed a bunch that eventually had the expiration pass. I probably wouldn't have had an issue eating expired food if I were hungry or dirt poor. Since the apocalypse didn't happen. Im able to buy food thats reasonably priced and peanut butter isnt $18 a jar, I tossed 4 large jars in the trash. If you are in dire need of food then I'd eat it. I cant say the same thing about chicken.
November 14, 2025 at 2:27 AM #2152903@supreme-leech It's a regional thing. If you live in the North of England, Scotland, or Ireland, "shite" is probably your profanity of choice. Farther South, it's "shit". I can also confirm that wherever you live in the UK, your Cadbury chocolate isn't as good as it used to be, but not quite as bad as American chocolate. Not yet anyway, but there's still time.
November 14, 2025 at 7:48 AM #2152929i'm getting a vibe from your comments that the date is not that important in Peanut Butter, so i decide to start eating it anyway and according to @frank22 comment is to put it on the fridge after opening. And I bought more skippy peanut butter, this is what i usually get. the thing with skippy peanut butter, when you eat it with a spoon you can choke to death because it's like glue, so you have to be careful
November 14, 2025 at 11:04 AM #2152944Spread it on warm toast and eat it with your tea. It'll go down easily.
November 14, 2025 at 4:32 PM #2152971November 14, 2025 at 11:19 PM #2152999Depends on what it is. There are some foods that I'll eat when the use by date is a month or two past that use by date. Other times that food goes straight to the bin.
