I hate toons in all of their glory. Toon characters, toon enviornments, etc.
That's all... Does anyone else feel the same? BTW; I feel the same about chibis, anime characters, Funko Pops and anything similar. I really don't get the appeal... But am prepared for the hate. lol
February 17, 2025 at 10:47 PM #2118286ever you heard about Hayao Miyazaki films ?
February 17, 2025 at 11:27 PM #2118288I dislike all the steampunk stuff but don't really hate it. Well not enough to start a thread about it.
February 17, 2025 at 11:32 PM #2118290There are certain kinds I really love and others I really hate, and others I think are meh. It's all over the place for me. I think it really comes down to whether or not there's solid, informed artistic direction behind the effort, or if it looks generic/derivative or sloppily slapped together.
February 17, 2025 at 11:46 PM #2118291Steampunk theme looks "sloppily slapped together" to me. Like it can't decide in which century it belongs. No problem with sci-fi/technology or 19th-century industrial but putting them together is discordant IMO.
February 18, 2025 at 12:13 AM #2118294They have their place, but that isn't anywhere near my Runtime. :0/
I'm still into ultra-realism. You know, what they originally said G9 was going to be better at!

February 18, 2025 at 12:32 AM #2118295@eelgoo - G9's realism only applies from the neck up. When I suggested G9 should have been named "G9 Portrait" resident arsehole Haseltine deleted my comment.

Season 1 is Fnk amazing
February 18, 2025 at 9:41 AM #2118320I dislike both Toon and Steampunk , I have no use for either one.

After many many MANY interactions with Haseltoons, I'm convinced that it's a poorly coded chatbot implemented by Sheldon Cooper.
Don't get me started.I believe he's one of the chief reasons nobody but a very few self-helped troopers have actually ever made any truly useful addons for DAZ. It's clear he NEVER reads your post and only gives condescending pat answers that reddit could give for less trouble.
NEVER point out a serious bug and ask for workaround help...But on-topic, I'm not a big fan of toony stuff OR slapdash steampunk. If you just watch V For Vendetta, and Boxtrolls, and actually pay attention to the details, you have the entire true design ethic down. 99% of "steampunk" in the store looks like the PA asked Google.
"show me something I know nothing about and make me an instant expert".
Meh.February 18, 2025 at 7:35 PM #2118393I didnt either till I watched Arcane. Im still not big on Steampunk and only mildly interested in messing with toon shaders BUT Arcane is absolutely worth watching. Season 2 not so much.
I didnt think Id like Avatar Last Air Bender till I watched it. One of the best series Ive seen.
A live action Lion King just cant compare to the animated one.
February 19, 2025 at 2:48 PM #2118512I love the whole toon genre, but it's 100% not for everyone. Even within the toon genre itself, there are some who hate Manga but love Western toons, and vice-versa.
It's something that has evolved over time - Manga (Josei, Seinen, Kodomo) has a ton of stylistic differences within itself, as have Western toons (Disney/Pixar, Looney Toons, Hanna-Barbera, Aeon Flux/Heavy Metal, Marvel/DC, etc.) People will pick and choose what aesthetics they like and what they don't.
I love ultra-realism art as well, especially in CG and if it encompasses a different time period or plane of existence (probably because I'm not the greatest at making any of it.)
February 21, 2025 at 12:12 AM #2118661The world would be less if not for animation
May 26, 2025 at 4:06 PM #2130264Finally replying to this. I haven't had time till now. Toons, I will always hate with a passion. No offence to anyone who loves the genre.
Steampunk, I hated for the longest time, as it was everywhere, but now I've warmed to it. I've even created - shock, horror - some steampunk art. Chibis and anime deserve to be burnt to a crisp in a metaphorical bonfire.
When I was a teenager,I was friends on deviantArt with a man in his sixties who loved chibis. I asked him why, and he answered that they ''were cute, pure and innocent'' I guess he never heard of internet rule 34. He did his best to change my mind. He even made a chibi of my profile pic for my birthday. And, though I appreciated the kind gesture, he still didn't convert me to the chibi cult. I feel the same about anime. I despise it in all its forms.
@d0gg0d As for old school animated cartoons; perfectly lovely and charming. As a fan of early cinema, nothing created in the modern era can surpass the beauty of early Disney animation. What I'm referring to is the modern day version of toons - particularly the 3D type which is largely based on Japanese anime. As a child, I loved cartoons, but, in my humble opinion, gigantic eyed, large headed, spikey haired characters rendered in 3D static form, are ugly and not at all aesthetically appealing. Really, I was venting at Daz's Toons.May 26, 2025 at 9:37 PM #2130283I love steampunk but it's gotta be done right. slapping a few gears and pipes on a scene or device is not steampunk. It's gotta be functional, or at least look like it could be. Here's a perfect example...
