Hopefully someone who knows can answer my question (the kitbash site wasn't helpful).
A request was filled for one of the kitbash3d cargo kits. All I got was .usd files (except the textures). I know just a little about usd files and all my kb3d conversions were .blend or fbx/obj. Does kb3d now only offer .usd files for cargo products?
And more globally, what is the protocol for only getting some file types in a request if others are available? I wanted to leave a comment on the thread that I only wanted fbx/obj or .blend, but the comment component of the request sux (fb, disqus, x, or google only). Why can't we just comment using our zone id? Anyway, i assumed that all file formats would be shared (if cargo allows that).
I'm not accusing the filler of anything. I pmed him separately and not trying to create any drama. Just seeking knowledge and clarification.
December 7, 2023 at 4:50 PM #2047261There were DM threads regarding at least a couple of the cargo exclusive products fulfilled.
Looks like they use some form of DRM/license key for their cargo software, so products have to be manually converted to blender or obj/fbx format before they can be shared.
The good news is this shouldn't take *that* much effort to at least have them available in Blender format (I'm not familiar with other formats) but it won't be as quick and easy as just putting the downloaded files in a zip file.

I saw the dm thread after I posted this. Looks like, at least for the one package I requested, some kind soul converted the usd files to .blend and .dae files and shared with the thread group. Once I get to my computer, I'll see if they work.
iirc, queensknight said in an earlier thread that, for cargo packages, you have to download every asset that you want and you have to download those assets over again if you want more than one format. So, if you get usd files and you also want .blend and .fbx, you would have to download each asset, one at at time, 3 times each. It's obviously crazy.
December 7, 2023 at 9:34 PM #2047291If you can get it into blender, you can export from there to FBX. That's one of the nice things about it 🙂
December 8, 2023 at 3:34 PM #2047420It was sorted out 🙂 and the new files are ok now.
