    Hi all,
    I don't usually interact too much on here, but I was interested in getting some feedback. I've recently started doing conversions of some G9 assets back to 8 and 8.1 (because honestly, I hate working with G9, and there's just more available assets for G8 yet) and was wondering if posting something like that is allowed here? And if so, if anyone would be interested in that? I've mainly been converting stuff for my own personal use and haven't shared them anywhere, but I wasn't sure if there was a high demand for that kind of thing. It's mostly just hairs and clothes and some character morphs, but I was mainly just curious? I don't want to clog the site with things that people aren't really looking for/want.

    I would love to have converted clothes for my G8 ladies. Conversions are always welcome here. Us two aren't the only ones who haven't fallen in love with GeeNine.

    Very interested in G9 to G8F / G8.1F character conversions.

    There are starting to be some quite decent looking ones.

    BTW You know that Richard has done a G9 to G8F clone for clothes & hair?

    There are some other G9 to G8 threads here, precisely because ppl didn't or won't take to G9 for a list of reasons.
    (I have my own, and refuse to include in and clog up my runtime.)

    One is: G9 to G8.1 Conversion
    Another (and among my personal interest) is: G9 textures to G8

    G9 char/skin MATs have improved greatly since intro IMO. There are some legit chars that I would consider at this point. But, with a few exceptions, the MATs are mainly what I'm interested in, since I'm still mostly satisfied with G8/8.1 morphs.
    That said, some G9 (face/head) morphs would be quite nice to have for G8/8.1 bases. Just not sure how would work without starter or other essentials installed. Perhaps that's where contributors come in.

    As for assets, there is a working G9 to GX cloner on the blog (see post in first above thread here for brief from personal experience) for modifying the DS Auto-Fit dialog.
    But any additional G9 to G8 functionality would always be welcome AFAIC. Appreciate any contributions in the endeavor.

    I have created some g8 to g9 and g8.1 to g9 morphs also so that you can fit g9 clothing and hair directly do genesis 8. Maybe it would be better to share some of those morphs? They've worked well enough for me anways. I haven't had too many issues with them. But if someone has already made morphs and shared them I won't repost what already exists here.

    Did you mean to say "G9 to G8" and "G9 to G8.1"?
    If so, I, for one, could use and would appreciate such a share, since I don't ever plan on installing or using actual G9 bases or essential packages. (And, of course, providing those packages aren't required in using such morphs.)

    In fact, with many users (at least and especially here) seemingly considering abandoning the pains and malformations of G9 and uninstalling, maybe getting what "gold" is available out of it before that would be wise? (For example, a series of preferred or desired G9 morphs converted for G8/8.1, or just a converter available - the latter of which I think at one point seemed silly or pointless, but now people are seriously seeking out more than ever.)

    Depending on how the G9 correction vs. crash balance is handled, maybe a lucrative notion to offload what works now for G8/8.1 utilization going forward.

    I wouldn't worry too much about that. What if your contributions are considered better or differently desirable by a given user? There is great value in diversity. How many Claire Redfield mods are out there now? And people still download them all.

    EDIT: And besides, regarding actual out-of-the-box G9 to G8 morphs (not conversions for clothing or assets or Auto-Fit), I haven't seen any. Happy to be link-formed if I missed it.

    heck yea... bring on any conversions from g9 to g8... been loving g8 so far, and theres so much out there for it...

    I'm afraid not. I'm someone who works with textures and seeing laziness.

    Some content creators will make Diffuse & SSS textures for their characters but use the default DAZ G9 Roughness & SO/AO maps instead of creating their own. This leads to a bland washed out or sunburnt look that comes with most DAZ G9 character products.
    PBR is OK but you have to make the effort if you want the textures to look nearly as good as Genesis 8. I did away with the skin detail maps and replaced them with the normal maps used with Uber, a few tweaks here & there gave slightly better results but G9 still sucks IMO.

    I converted a character from G8 to G9 last week. Did all the rigging & the ERC freeze but despite numerous attempts at saving the morph it refuses to stay put leading to fingers & arms all out of sync. I give up.

    I see. As someone who will not be installing or using G9, I've only been going by what I've seen in the store in the form of offerings from known-good PAs, and the renders (frequently composed by third party artists) which advertise their products. Some of the the more recent skin MATs look/looked quite good to me, as such, and I thought it to be... well, while not an upgrade based on the comments and anecdotes, certainly something equivalently acceptable, and new regardless. More recent chars and their MATs from PAs like MSO, for example, seemed quite nice.
    But if what you're saying is true, and ubiquitous, then dang; not only do I stand corrected but don't know what to say. ...G9 is even more crap than I/all thought? That didn't seem possible.

    My main complaints are the stovepipe limbs and joints; especially elbows and knees and their unnatural bend morphs, for even the most basic of poses. I see them everywhere, even from the best and most seasoned presentation artists in the very best of renders. And if THEY can't get it sorted, then...
    That's a huge step BACKwards AFAIC. While corrective bend morph packages are also necessary (opinion) for G8/8.1, they aren't nearly as needed as in the case of G9 if that's the writing on the wall. Just really pretty atrocious; can't do it.
    But if you're saying that the MATs are junk, too... And at 8K costs to space and load/render times??? I mean, jeez, what's the point?
    I really do like some of the chars and shapes being offered up for G9 (mainly head/face, and some bodies), and would still like to implement on G8/8.1.

    Which brings back to the point in this thread I guess: The need to convert from G9 to G8.

    G9 is hardly going away, of course. All the PAs creating increasing libraries of product prove that's true. (Some have seemingly wholly abandoned G8 altogether.) But for those wanting nothing to do with G9 (an evidently increasing number), a converter or G8 friendly morphs definitely seem to be in growing demand.

    G9 itself as a base is not bad (except for the hardware burden). It's very possible to achieve the same looks (or extremely close) to G8, it's just that a lot of whats being produced and sold is NOT doing that.
    I could be wrong, but it seems the majority of the complaints seem to be about the quality and look of the G9 Characters for sale, and not so much about the base platform itself.

    IMO the angrodgenous base is the core of the problem.

    Archetypal male and female skeletons & shapes are different & there is no getting away from that.

    Perhaps if they had chosen to give relatively denser mesh in the areas that differ, it might have worked better, but it is a moot point.
