For a while I've wondered if Daz is used like that.

    Is that a thing?

I've thought that's also how a site like this one becomes quite useful. For instance using the products for sketching up stuff and once a client is happy with the work, do the right thing and buy the required licenses, which would have already been contemplated in the project's budget.

But I'm wondering, what kind of work would Daz be good for? I'm thinking ads and marketing is one thing.

I know it's been used for print and online stuff from time to time. There's a usenet group for Poser and they note any work they see using Poser ("Poser sighting!"). With Studio being so much more popular I'd imagine that's there more being produced with it.

I did a series off steampunk themed images for a friend, see printed them on coffeemugs.
Just for fun so no sales.

Been thinking a LOT about this and I believe that few pros use it because it's tools suck, especially for animation...despite what that ass Dartanbeck says...

When I started making short animations for a training company I was working for, I did them in Poser (it was a loooong time ago). Eventually I forced myself to learn Blender (it was a pre 2.0 version so the GUI was horrific) and never looked back. Animation is a big part of advertising.

So then the Daz industry, if we can call it that, thrives mainly on amateur personal use of the software and products? I don't know if it's even thriving though.

You can make commercial use of the product of Daz/Renedosity/Renderotica/etc... if it is in 2D graphics and 3d animation in video). There is no police watching if a cartel wears such a dress of such character of such Genesis...
Another thing is the use of the 3D model in a video game, since it is "embedded" within the software, and there are patents there: But only for Genesis, not for the character used.
PAs do not patent or register as a "utility model" with the patent office, since their costs are very high. I, as an industrial designer, have only patented a folding system in anti-impalement pieces for rebar under construction, and I assure you that you have to think a lot about whether it is worth it.
The other things I do, the company/client is already in charge of their property legal system...
If you look, there are even comics on Renderotica: You pay for the work, not for the models used.

Particularly, I use the genesis models to show the interaction of my designs with humans, but only so that my clients can see how to use it, either in video or in the use of an instruction manual. Work clothes or simple. No "centaurs or heroes of the galaxies"! 😀

Some assets (I stress some) are usable as game assets. I've seen some props used personally.

For the most part, though, yes. Daz is an amateur marketplace for hobbyist software. Its license agreement is not conducive to professional use (i.e. licenses cannot be owned by companies, they are only for individual use, and enterprise licensing is prohibitively expensive for smaller studios) and most assets are not optimized for game use.

I'd say 90% of the people making money from daz are making comics or visual novels. Usually NSFW stuff (unfortunately for me)

@nightwolf99 & @wflg-gm , I agreed. But, It´s evident that you are not going to use any "daz content" in a worldwide campaign, such as "Nike, Coca-Cola, etc...", or other multinationals... Only for small businesses, maybe 40 posters for a one-stop event. disco, bar, restaurant... (No more...), or, as I say, the "patent" belongs to Daz, with his Genesis model, nothing "extra".

I sell 3D printable models that use Daz characters.

As @Nightwolf99 says, If I use something from here in one of my models, I buy the asset (and the 3D print license if applicable).
