I've been using a VPN for various reasons for quite some time, but now I can't log into this site unless I disable it. It says "your IP has been banned due to too many login attempts" or something close to that. (Don't have the window with the error open anymore)
Is there anything I can do about this, or am I just out of luck if I want to use a VPN AND this site?
I have used Nord vpn for years now.
Always log in here with it, usually varying between a US and UK ip.Just change location or force an IP recycle. I use PIA and never had any issue with using a VPN with this site.
Unfortunately, the VPN that I use doesn't have that option available. (I can't switch because of reasons)
Am I just out of luck? I guess I can just disable the VPN to log in.
Difficult to offer definitive advice without knowing what the reasons, preventing you from switching, are. Have you been able to switch in the past, and it's only now unavailable, or has it never been an option?
Yeh Proton (free version) works fine for me too @Pooper, although I only have Japan, the Netherlands and USA servers to choose from.
Not being able to switch servers defeats much of the idea behind VPNs IMO.
You might want to think about moving to another VPN, free or otherwise.The paid version lets you pick from a couple dozen countries, and up to hundreds of IPs in most of those.
I'm using a VPN maintained by a very security conscious friend, so it's not a service where I can just switch locations, unfortunately.
In any case, the take-away is that I won't be able to log in with my current setup, it seems.
Fortunately, if I log in with the VPN off, I can then switch it back on and zonegfx seems to still accept my login cookie or whatever.That's good then. But I'm far from convinced that it's necessary to use a VPN for what we're doing anyway and I rarely use one for here. I think we're very low down on the list that the authorities are concerned with in a very big ocean of cyber-criminals doing far worse. In fact they probably consider minor software fraud as not worth going after and turn a blind eye. Even with with very big fish Mega and Kim Dotcom, he has avoided extradition from NZ by the US LEA, NZ being no US lackey like Britain with Assange, with a deal to be charged under New Zealand law, without the decades in prison he was facing in the US.

I think I tried NortonVPN for a little while with little success. MEGA still told me I was cut off. I ended up canceling the VPN and buying a month of MEGA...
Now I can't get into zonegfx using chrome/brave at all. It just keeps reloading the cloudflare verification thing over and over. I've turned off my VPN and it doesn't help. Nothing has changed since when it last worked.
I'm having to use firefox (which I don't normally use) just to get here and post this. When using firefox, the cloudflare verification works as you'd expect; it sits there for a few seconds, then forwards me on to the site. But not in chrome or brave.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?
I'm on Brave at the moment. I've noticed that a few times cloudflare goes into a loop but I just restart my browser again. I'm not using a VPN but last time I did there was no problem.
