I paid for this link but it expects me to log in to Google because the link is a Google Share. I am going to forego the item because I NEVER log into Google service on my PC
I've never before seen a link shared this way. Is this kinda sharing appropriate?
July 5, 2022 at 2:43 PM #1828325Which one was it anyway ?
July 5, 2022 at 3:15 PM #1828335Probably the Cyberpunk 2077 Claire Russell model - I "paid" for that one too without access..
July 5, 2022 at 3:38 PM #1828343I paid for Cyberpunk 2077 Claire Russell model and got a Google Share

July 7, 2022 at 3:39 AM #1828856Google Drive is one of the allowed storage hosts, along with Mega, as stated on the 'add new post' page.
If I see a post with a Google drive link or I post one, I'll add a disqus comment because people bitch so much or report it as broken.
July 7, 2022 at 7:56 AM #1828926We bitch because we choose not to be forced to log into a Google account.
July 7, 2022 at 10:41 AM #1828959That is a you problem, not a problem of the uploader. The uploader decides which file sharing to use and as long as it is one of the allowed ones, the admins won't do anything about it. And to report it as a broken or missing link just because it's a google drive link... come on, really?
July 7, 2022 at 12:22 PM #1829021I will rather not post in this forum again - enjoy yourselves!
July 7, 2022 at 1:21 PM #1829039"That is a you problem, not a problem of the uploader."
In the short term, you would be right. In the long term, people will learn to avoid the uploader's posts.
With the right 3rd-party plugins, Google Drive can keep track of which logged-in google users download your files, which means an enterprising vendor could set up a honeypot with it (look up Orangedox), and cross-reference that list.
Consider also that people are not going to be willing to give their info to Google, where most people have a legit Gmail account they would prefer to not have linked to here in any way shape or form.
If the uploader can't recognize these facts, then I have to question the motives of the uploader.
It takes no real effort to fix your Google Drive sharing to allow anonymous downloads. If fixing permissions on a Google Drive is too much of a technical challenge, then it takes no real effort to make a Mega account and upload to that instead.
July 7, 2022 at 5:24 PM #1829147And then again, you can always create a throw away google account like I did it which you for example only use for here to download and nowhere else. So the vendor would run into a dead end there.
But apparently, that idea is not being considered here. More bash the uploader it seems
July 7, 2022 at 6:55 PM #1829180And regardless of whether Google is allowed or not - it is always such a PITA that it should be unallowed, along with others such as one drive etc.Stick to Mega and any that actually don't try to shaft you one way or another.
Add a field to the post so members can see where posted - to avoid those they wish to, like the plague.July 8, 2022 at 5:47 AM #1829303Actually, it's not a "YOU" problem.
It's possible to share downloads on Google drive without needing someone to log in.
Many people are concerned re tracking of "questionable" content.
If I follow a Google drive link that asks me to log in I will not.
Most Google drive links don't ask for this.
It's a shame Mega has such a low/short retention if it didn't I'm thinking the Google thing wouldn't be an issue.Personally, I'd be happy with quite a few more filesharing sites to be allowed.
But that's up to the site mods.July 9, 2022 at 2:21 AM #1829595If the site didn't allow Google Drive, people wouldn't use it. As long as it's allowed, people are going to use it. I've gotten multiple comments and reports when using Google Drive - which is why I add a comment so people can avoid it if they want.
July 9, 2022 at 6:55 AM #1829635I haven't had a problem here but with other sharing site I have always assumed the Google Drive request to login was an indication the link was dead, apparently not so.
Either way I can't do that because I don't have an account nor any desire to have one. It's like the Win 11 bullshit forcing you to have a Microsoft account..... fuck off big brother... this sort of data mining should be made illegal. -
