1st – @Felicia
Deceptavely simple but I love the style.2nd – @Kefka
Nice, though slightly wierd, take on Xmas and anyone who puts the effort into an animation deserves a vote.3rd – @Lucafeelgood
Cats and Xmas kind of go together for me. Love the cat audience.December 7, 2022 at 2:23 am #1898259Wow, what a difficult thing to try and do choose 3 out of all the entries... But Rules be rules so here are my top 3
1.twiggi A little Girl named Mary. I loved the whole idea and story behind the image, the Windows with the christmas displays again the colours caught my eye, I really Like the christmas tree size, its small but a huge impact on the result. I LOLed ata the cat eyeing dinner, the rabbit.... This is a great Christmas render2. 1138adrianmartinez all I want for Christmas. This to me is what Christmas is all about, The young ones.... I loved the colours and the expression of wonderment/delight on the Lads face, and being a Pizza fan, well ... chuckles Great Image.
3.adelasia from our house to yours. I really liked the personal side to this image, I loved everything about it, the tree, I wish I had a tress like that. The lighting, and finally the dogs..... Great Image.
December 7, 2022 at 11:46 am #1898439Many worthy and interesting works!
My top:
1. @Felicia Sudden Snowstorm at Badgers Drift Station - wonderful exposition, very atmospheric composition.
2. @Twiggi Winter Wonders - good New Year's atmosphere
3. @Kefka The Leg - cool ideaSeparately, @Frank22 is, as always, a wonderful feeling of the scene, but you completely failed the lighting. What an omission!
December 7, 2022 at 11:57 am #1898448Ooh voting again! A challenge. Need time for something like this. Since there are truly beautiful images. People have their own thoughts about winter wonder. That makes it so difficult to define what is good or not so good. But first.
Thanks to our contest coordinator @enjoyify, who always laughs. Thanks also to those who have left some donations here. Yes and now the most important....Voting...1. @D0gg0d Has immediately triggered a feeling in me. Simple but has reached its goal. Touching the soul.
2. @Kefka the leg lamp adds to the atmosphere. A warm idea.
3. @littleevie The ball does its job. The light has found its way. Really emotionalThanks to all!
December 7, 2022 at 3:47 pm #1898563So many great entries to choose from, but two in particular struck me right away, so without further ado, and it was hard deciding on first, and second place here.
1st @Felicia I just love the atmosphere in this one. The lone girl getting off the train on a snowy station with her baggage. I just hope her parents were waiting. Outstanding effort.
2nd @Twiggi Another great scene. Simplicity always works for me, and this one is just so damned cute. Nearly made first in my choices.
3rd @Adelasia Another cosy picture, depicting where we should remember that Christmas is for pets too. Nice work on this one.
Best of luck everyone, and a Merry Christmas to one and all.
December 7, 2022 at 11:38 pm #1898688Ooh.. I got a few points
1st - @littleevie Because from the day it was posted, I really enjoyed the camera angle and snow globe distortion.
2nd - @spats Because it's weird and I like weird and disgusting.
3rd - @ewlo Because it features at least 5 animals without a single daz human character in sight.
I was also going for a daz humanless character render, but I failed when I had to cut off a genesis 8 female leg to make my lamp.
[Redacted]
Good luck everyone! Thanks for the contest @enjoyify
Anyway, take care all.
December 8, 2022 at 1:20 am #1898706@Kefka & @Yngvarr I'm looking at the picture and yes it's very sunny. Is that what's amiss or the shadows? The sun has been known to come out in winter from time to time. Granted you're probably right that it would look a lot better with an overcast HDRI.
And I'm not knocking weirdos, I'm one myself, fully certified LOL.December 8, 2022 at 7:37 am #1898757Many a sunny and wonderful day in winter. Can personally attest. Resorts abound in ticket sales on sunny winter days.
3rd - @frank22 - Winter Walk
Sunny, snowy mountain days, I love them. I think the lighting is spot on accurate IMHO, straight out of a memory. DOF and motion blur used well. Good feeling.2nd - @d0gg0d / ADAM - I Wonder Why
High realism, literally and figuratively. No stranger to melancholy this time of year, myself. I feel you. The shadows and sunshine hit home here, too, in a warm and comforting way. (EDIT: Honesty strikes sharp in the best concepts and art. Thank you for the personal.)1st - @Kefka - The Leg
Classic vibe, captured. (And great animation. Can't unsee moving smoke and lights when looking at the still.) Attention to detail, and very creative applications. Nice one.Re: My own entry - Just dragged UHD ver over to high def TV for first time, and immediately noticed hairline error/poke-through (on Aniyah - punk rock chick next to booth). Rookie mistake to not fully check over first at higher res; and fixed. Just not noticed/rendered in posted ver. AWH (ah well, happens).
Great entries one and all.
P.S.: Backstory - Once saw a Candy-Cane-Dancer at a winter festival one year, much like in entry image. Many imbibing people laughing hysterically, especially when Peanut Butter Jelly Time came on in between raffle prizes and she busted the move. Punchline: She was NOT part of the staff or associated with the event in any way. She was a local and just showed up that way, slightly inebriated and central to the cheer-leading fun. Many fans of PBJT-Candy-Cane-Dancer that day.
Weird is wonderful. And not all that weird.
PBJT_Candy_Cane_Dancer_Anim.mp4December 8, 2022 at 8:11 am #1898766December 8, 2022 at 1:31 pm #1898869My votes:
[1st place] – @Titan3D - New World
[2nd place] – Bebe Rebozo @Bebe - Glacial Worlds
[3rd place] – @WonderTweek - A Festive Woman
New World is the winner for me. I like the theme, and the relative (apparent) simplicity of the scene reflects the serene calmness of the whole thing. I also like how the logo was placed in the scene in such a way that it is visible and unobtrusive at the same time.
Glacial Worlds is a great entry! Besides being an outstanding scene in its own right, I especially liked the way the organic elements work and interact together, eg: the deer gazing at the lights and the people in the dwelling attending to their own business. I also like how the white light interacts with the ground snow / ice.
A Festive Woman would be my top choice if the sole criterion of the contest was choosing a Christmas Banner. The scene just works with the DOF being just right. The banner does a good job of being in high contrast with the rest of the scene and it sort of fits in at the same time. The expression is great and the excellently lit and highlighted folds of the dress add the right amount of complexity and a 3D effect without which the scene would be, perhaps, too simple.
As you can see, I am a bit biased towards landscapes and portraits, which elements of are found in all these entries. This is not to say that the other entries were not great. I liked them all and have the best of things to say about them. Indeed, it was hard to get to just the big three.
Good luck to all the contestants!

December 10, 2022 at 12:13 am #1899324A lot of beautiful scenes here! really nice to see the many interpretations on what the festivities mean, but these three in particular really caught my eye:
1st - @Kefka - The Leg
Can't go wrong with this classic! the hard work put on the scene really shows through in the little details such as the lamps, curtains and the toy trains, everything was nicely thought out to accommodate the animation and make it as fluid as possible, masterfully done =D2nd - @Lucafeelgood - We Love Cats
As a cat (and music) lover this one portrays quite accurately how my own holidays usually are, so it spoke to me in that sense, was also quite impressed by the sheer amount of actors and interactions, the poses complement each other perfectly and the emissives give just the right amount of warmth to the scene, Nice work =D3rd - @Felicia - Sudden Snowstorm at Badgers Drift Station
The "dramatic" lighting and the DOF sets the tone here, it gives off a very cinematic feel that fits really well with the ongoing interaction between characters. Perhaps it's not a "festive" scene in the literal sense, but that's where it shines in my opinion, focusing instead on the pure and relatable feeling of "returning home".December 10, 2022 at 3:38 pm #1899598Just a side note for the artists, there is also a competition at renderhub (link below) for cash for the best winder render, seeing as everyone has done all the hard work already why not stick them over there also
