Sure. Feel free to DM me!
November 5, 2022 at 3:09 pm #1886329That'd be awesome actually.
Thanks EthiopiaNovember 7, 2022 at 11:42 pm #1887287ethiopia, it would be amazing if you could help me out with converting a character as well, at least would be fun to try and i did not understand if you have a standalone working version of wrap3d/wrap4d. I am a newbie about that and would love to get some help to perhaps try to convert a character.
And since we are talking about such a program, has any of you had any experience converting a prop from photos to a real 3d object? I would love to create some things like shoes and can find good photos to use for such a purpose, but fear it may be a very difficult thing to learn 🙂
November 8, 2022 at 12:47 am #1887295I just sometime find double materials (for poser and daz) and keep them both just in case.
You may also find double or triple materials such as p4, p5, pp in poser mats. Always use the most recent which is usually poser 5 (p5) mats in most cases for old content. PP is Pro Pack. I apply the default poser stuff but always end up first selecting all surfaces and converting to DAZ Uber, then, depending on the item, going back and selecting surfaces and applying my own closely matching materials from my very extensive shader collection. I then save it out as a daz studio format into my DAZ format library then delete the item from the poser runtime. Some items from the earlier eras though use one surface and one texture for everything such as a pair of jeans where the belt, buckle, and cloth is just a single surface. Sure, you could use the tools to split surfaces but "ain't nobody got time fo dat." As for the same/double materials in both poser format and daz format, you really don't need to keep both.
p4: Poser 4, 1999
pp: Pro Pack, 2000
p5: 2003and so on.
November 8, 2022 at 8:21 am #1887377I'd like a copy of wrap4d please.
November 8, 2022 at 12:14 pm #1887483November 8, 2022 at 12:31 pm #1887487It has been a long time since I dabbled with V4, but IIRC the only exception to your suggestion to take the most recent iteration of materials from Poser is that Mc5 files cannot be read by DS?

November 8, 2022 at 8:09 pm #1887680Somewhere along the line DAZ added the ability to use mc6 files. Just tested with a kids4 mc6 skin
November 8, 2022 at 9:00 pm #1887697Well, that is useful to know.
Thanks for the info.
🙂
November 10, 2022 at 10:17 pm #1888452I just wrapped Vic9 to Genesis8.1 Female and the results were first class. Took around 10 minutes. Should have used this app loooong ago.
November 11, 2022 at 12:46 pm #1888730@InverseKinematics would you be ok to share your conversion to see how it looks? And since you are evidently able to use the program, would you like to try to make a V4 to G81/G9 conversion with it ? Would be glorious to be able to convert characters in a nice way with this tool and I fear I might not be able to do it, unless maybe with some help / examples.
Also, just out of curiosity, have you tried creating any 3d assets starting from photos ?
November 11, 2022 at 2:41 pm #1888802Sure, but time permits me for now. See this link https://zonegfx.com/forums/topic/genesis-2-conversion-love-for-genesis-9/page/3/
Here's the links for the Wrap4d conversion videos I mention in that thread. hxxps://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF3LSR7D48McCdAye54li4SdbKkrw4wFd

With Genesis? Yes, but it's hit and miss and No PA is willing to share their methods on getting it right the first time. I had to jump through hoops just to get the eyes to fit my head morph. You see if Genesis were a blank canvas it would make it a lot easier to get the shape we really want.
December 31, 2022 at 5:51 pm #1908196@jr96 found this thread by chance.
Got very decent results (with one exception, one character) just by loading the V4 character in Daz as is, applying the iRay conversion for the textures and saving the material preset as duf file, exporting the character as Poser, and then using GenX with the add-ons to get it from the Poser file into a G3F (I have done only some F for now, I want to do more in future, and some M4 character as well).
It does not go all the way to G8F because GenX does not do it, but since it is basically direct from V4 to G3 (the Poser export is not really changing the generation), the results were almost always good in terms of morphs.
Again, only one looked really bad, for the rest, eventually the hourglass shape was a bit too enchanced (big tights), but morphs in Daz should take care of that.
For the textures/skin, there is the product already mentioned by others, Legacy UVs for Genesis 3 (there is also for Genesis 8 and now one for Genesis 9, you need to use the duf file, though notice the one for G9 does not cover V4 and M4, only from G3 forward).
Another solution, that I tried but not yet validated for lack of time (meaning, I converted textures, but did not yet try to use the converted textures on the V4 converted to G3) and in theory could be even better (no need for add-on that is a kind of geograft) is to use a software from Blacksmith, texture converter, it takes as input the duf files for the V4 textures, and tries to create textures that are directly in G3F format (which means also G8F format).
It is also possible that the free solution on Renderosity works, although as far as I know that is similar to "legacy UVs", though instead of geografts, it works as a geoshell.
The reason for my experiments was the same you mentioned, some character very nice or very specific that do not exist AFAIK in another version.
Have not tried with Dawn yet, but I was thinking to do it in future, and see if it would work.January 1, 2023 at 9:23 am #1908390@ZGFX202112 thanks for your input so if i got it right:
1 iray conversion and save material preset as duf
2 export the character as poser (excuse my ignorance but isn't V4 a native poser figure already? what will change when doing so in daz?)
3 use genx to convert poser to G3
4 use legacy uv for g3 where i should load the duf material preset saved, correct?
5 alternatively use the software from blacksmith to generate g3 texturesIf i got it right, this one seems an easy enough way to do it, thanks! I will try
