Nice work Legolas.
As for me, SD stopped working this morning when I opened it. Running the .bat and everything looks fine and the web UI loads OK, but it won't render (just says "waiting") and all the buttons above Styles do nothing. When I try to make changes like disable extensions/apply and restart it won't hold.
I deleted the venv folder and it looked like everything was reinstalling but no dice.
I might have to delete everything and do a complete reinstall.... bugger it! I don't need this crap happening 😖Edit - some strange things have been happening with my PC lately and I think the GPU was on the way out. So I bought a new one today... i7 13700k, 32GB DDR 5, MSI RTX4070 gaming trio 12GB.
I'll install SD tomorrow.... not looking forward to that as the first time was troublesome.October 13, 2023 at 6:26 am #2035791ah nice toy you got Frank
Small tip:
Make print screen of every step of the setup, use that to make an "installation manual" so you do not have to invent the wheel time and time again...October 13, 2023 at 8:02 am #2035803@frank22 Ouchie. GPU giving out is really painful. Thankfully you were able to get a new one quickly 🙂
As for the installation of Automatic1111 I remember reading that it is now simplified, but I haven't had any troubles with it since January, so I don't know what the current installation procedure has come to, but I remember using this guide:
Best of luck 🙂

Always sad and painful when a stable system goes rogue.
I'm still using a slightly older Dell with a Quadro RTX 5000 16Gb - but it runs well and loathe to swap to newer system just yet.
Performs quite well with DS and SD so why tempt fate?If things go pear-shape i have a newer 2nd system that has most installed - except SD.
Alienware X17 R1 - 17.3" UHD 120Hz - Tiger Lake i9-11980HK - Nvidia RTX3080 16 GB GDDR6 - 64GB
Hope your new system performs well for a good while and all restoring behaves itself... 🙂October 13, 2023 at 10:40 pm #2035910Excellent results as usual. It's really impressive how you, @frank22, and others have gotten to a place of true replication without artifacts, deformations or anomalies. (Unless PS-ing those out still.) It seems like the only thing changing anymore is the intended subject or foreground. All the remaining elements of images are truly reproduced faithfully - or improved upon - right down to the detailed textures and lighting.
I can't imagine what the prompts and settings spaghetti must be.
With all the IRL work this year I still haven't delved into SD the way had intended.
Still no local install, still no more practicing, still just mediocre results with web based ports and not a real reason to continue there.I wonder, maybe I could pass you guys a render and have it SD-ified? Maybe right here for demonstration and comparison purposes?
...Maybe there should be a service thread: "SD-ify My Render"
P.S.: @frank22 Sorry to hear about your hardware woes. Hope that gets sorted soon. Take time and do it right with no lookbacks.
October 13, 2023 at 11:27 pm #2035924Read the manual for instal ( I couldn't resist:) )
Have a lot of reading to do, lots of " how does that work" questions.
Agreed it is amusing to see it work, and what it comes up with
Only did some 500x500 images, just playing around ...
But I still think DS is more user friendly in the way one can place objects anywhere in the 3D space, thus have total control over the creative process.
But I must admit, SD is a fun toyOctober 14, 2023 at 1:19 am #2035938Thanks @Legolas18 for that link to the installation guide, worked like a dream 😊.
I notice that the SD GUI is a bit different from the one I had. It was slow before I installed xformers but now it is much faster than my old PC.
@Gaver - welcome aboard 😁.October 14, 2023 at 3:58 am #2035982Why must there always be a f**king problem! In the latest SD install I did inpainting is broken. Can't inpaint anything and get "Only masked is not in list". Searched for fixes but none work. It seems to be a common problem with the new version and I guess I'll just have to wait until they fix it.
October 14, 2023 at 11:40 am #2036029@spats Thanks 🙂
Unfortunately, SD still produces some problems, but thankfully the new version (SDXL) is much better in that respect from the previous generation (SD1.5) and in these images here I used Photoshop only for some color toning and contrast adjustments.
Also with SDXL there is no longer the need for prompt spaghetti either, the models are much more responsive to what is actually asked, although the previous gen did indeed require some really weird and insanely long prompts.
If you have a render, sure I could give it a go at SD-fy it 🙂
October 14, 2023 at 11:46 am #2036032for the .bat file, I use the following line:
set COMMANDLINE_ARGS= --xformers --api --no-half-vae --autolaunch
This ensures the loading of the xformers, the auto-update of the program, no-half vae I needed for SDXL to work correctly, and sometimes it is needed for some loras. finally, autolaunch automatically lanches the web-browser UI 🙂
Also, make sure you don't get any error messages when loading Automatic1111, since a few months back I had to update both pytorch (with the
--reinstall-torch
command, and the xformers with the--reinstall-xformers
command).October 14, 2023 at 11:57 am #2036038@gaver I think that if you want more control over what is placed where in your images, an interesting approach would be to first create your images in DAZ, and then use AI as a "render engine" where you recreate the image as I did here (it's the img2img process). 🙂
Also, consider that you have control over how much you want the AI to take over, there is literally a slider for that called "Denoising strength" (it's a confusing label, I know) which goes from 0 to 1. The higher the value, the more the AI is free to do its own thing, the lower it is, the closer to the original the final image will be. I typically stay close to 0.5, so I get the best of both worlds 🙂
October 14, 2023 at 2:01 pm #2036054@Legolas18 thank you. Just got it running yesterday. As with al software, it takes time to get to understand the prog. It would be nice if DS had a render engine like AI. But by using it like you do, you still create your own artwork, opposed to let AI come up with stuff. It makes great images, but it is ( for creating) still to much of a roll of the dice.
But will try, eager to learn 😉October 14, 2023 at 9:07 pm #2036174Hallelujah! Deleted and rebuilt the venv folder and now the inpainting gui is back to normal.
It used to look like this-October 14, 2023 at 10:05 pm #2036178 -
