So basically not much to offer over G3 then.
Isn't it about time G3 had a worthy overhaul, or have DAZ run out of ideas.June 29, 2017 at 10:01 pm #274173I can't say it's not much to offer, and I didn't.
I just said the underlying tech changes don't rely on anything that couldn't have been done to G3.
Look, the same is true of G3 over G2. The big difference there is they don't share the same mesh. So, it's possible you would get a different result applying G3 technology to G2. Likely even. In that sense, a new figure is totally justifiable if not necessarily totally justified. You can argue about anything and eventually make one good point.
G8 and G3 do share the same mesh, except for the eyes. (and maybe the back of throat). So far the only thing G8 can do that G3 could never is be 3D printed. The G8 mesh is water tight. The G3 mesh is not.
It doesn't follow there's nothing of value G8 can do that G3 can't. Couldn't = Can't. I could not run a marathon without making some life changes. Stephen Hawking can't run a marathon. Ever. I can't run a marathon today. Because it's raining, for one, and it takes more than a day to make me ready to run a marathon.
So far, there no tech identified that G8 has that G3 couldn't. But unless someone ports the G8 tech back to G3, there's plenty G8 can do G3 can't. I make no judgement on the value of those things. I simply say that it was not technologically justified, IMO, as a new figure release. Much the same as a new iPhone every 12 months isn't justified.
I don't argue that their business model is wrong, either Daz or Apple. Just that I don't see the point to doing it that way. It doesn't change the fact that if you wish to use the new value in the new products, you gotta buy the new iPhone or download the new free figure. Nor does it say anything about whether or not you should value the capability changes of the new figure. I really don't have an answer for that. I haven't tested everything out. When I have, I'll only be able to say what is or sin't of value to me.
I can say the Golden Palace is far superior to any previous Gens product, if you're into realism. I looked at it and found it a bit startling in how different it reacts compared to the AE of NGV7. But I compared it to, you know, porn, and it's is much more anatomically realistic than anything previous. It is a bit off when it comes to color as the clitoral hood is more mons colored than inner labia colored in real life (of course the same applies to some outer labia minora, but at least irl you do see labia minora that are more pink than "skin." I've never seen a clitoral hood that was. Of course, I've not seen all the pussy, but it seems to me rosy red clithoods are the exception, rather than the rule.). Thus far, no one gets that right. Too much getting their anatomy from hentai, I suppose. I also noted that the smoothing modifier seems to respect geografts, now, but I haven't tested to see if that's specific to G8, GP, or Studio 4.9.4.

You sound irritated in your reply. Take a chill pill.
People have there own views in the world of 3D and I respect that. No need to grind your teeth over someone's reply unless you work for DAZ that is.
Facial features aside and regardless of small differences, G8 is a lame offering IMO. I've bent the thing all over the place and it's no better than G3.
The DAZ model of business is to regurgitate the same old stuff over and over again. I personally find it boring, and the same goes with most tech, they are out of ideas. It would be better to focus on improving DAZ studio. Poser is much more user friendly and feature packed than DS.
Just my opinion.
July 1, 2017 at 12:50 am #274940I was not irritated. I am now.
Seriously, when in the world has telling someone to calm down ever done anything but the opposite?
You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, but it's a waste of time telling other people not express theirs. They have same right you do.
People said stuff. I disagreed. Why's that grind your gears so much? (It must, you took the time write about it.) I find it irritating that you feel the need to comment on it not because you disagree, but because presume to opine on my right to have an opinion and ascribe your impression of my state of mind to me. That's all in your head. Don't start trying to pick fights with the person you imagine I am. It's pointlessly combative.
By all means, disagree. Have a disagreement cakewalk through your city center. It's all fair game. But when your argument rests on what you think someone else feels, you're probably wrong and anything you say will be indistinguishable from trolling. What's the point of that?
The thread topic was G8, not my feelings. Let's stay on topic. If you really feel the need to discuss my feelings, make your own thread.
July 1, 2017 at 11:28 am #275259To get back to topic...
For me 'horrible' is overstating it.
Whilst I don't like G8F as much as G3F I reckon they are both pretty good.
That is from someone that is into realism rather than the impossible, idealised fae type character. Each to their own preferences.
🙂
July 1, 2017 at 12:45 pm #275308Has any one tried morphing out v8s face like giving her a nose job ? changing the face in general i'm just wondering if then when u were to use premade facial expressions how it effects her face I know on some of the other genesis models it ends up making them look like they escaped from the loony bin. lol
July 1, 2017 at 4:17 pm #275486Personally, I kind of like some "masculine" features or something that makes them at least somewhat unique. For example, pretty much all of Digital Touch's characters are conventionally attractive, but they all have the samey-looking, vaguely Asian face.
July 1, 2017 at 4:43 pm #275501Yeah there is plenty of scope for those handy with ZBrush 😉
July 1, 2017 at 6:34 pm #275561AnonymousInactiveRank:I like realism too but I don't think the DAZ dolls are that realistic.
And I've been hard pushed to find a morph that makes Genesis look different than what's already on offer. I mean just making Genesis 3 look Asian.....Doesn't make her look Asian at all. I can still see Genesis in the features.See this. You'll know what I mean.

July 1, 2017 at 6:41 pm #275568Yes, some of those are excellent, but for the hobbyist market, Daz's output is the best base characters we have.
At the moment I still like G3F the best.
🙂
July 1, 2017 at 6:57 pm #275591AnonymousInactiveRank:Do you think some of the Genesis 3 characters on sale are dial created, or created with Zbrush as many authors claim?
I'd like to have a bash at creating a G3 or G8 head in Zbrush from photo reference 🙂
July 1, 2017 at 7:07 pm #275606I would think most use existing dials.
There should be greater variations if they had spent some time in ZBrush & knew what they were doing with it.🙂
July 1, 2017 at 8:00 pm #275685i've honestly been enjoying G8 and V8, especially with the fact she can autofit stuff perfectly from G2F/M and G3F/M (Genesis stuff still seems like a no-go though) but this is 1 key feature of the new gen, and this is what G3F lacks as she can basicly only correctly autofit stuff from G2F, the rest that you autofit on G3F is wonky.
G8F/V8 also so far has correctly applied L.I.E stuff from G3F (some exceptions here, as some won't work)
Then the other thing, G8F/V8 her 'muscles' such as abs, i feel they are much more reacting to movements and different poses, something i've seen G3F lacks.
About her look, i don't see anything bad with her look, for me G8F/V8 looks just way more 'mature' then G3F/V7 (and i would say that base model looks like she's in her early to late 20, as with G8F/V8 is more like in her 30's)
July 1, 2017 at 8:51 pm #275719Nothing wrong with that so far as I am concerned. 🙂
