The Ox Bow Incident.
I sense a lynching soon.
Who's got the rope?October 30, 2024 at 12:23 pm #2098878@reinecarola, the consensus for most here is that small, niche creators should be supported by actually buying their product. Those items are usually not shared here. The only exception are those vendors who end up being a-holes by charging outrageous prices and/or attacking their customers.
October 30, 2024 at 12:52 pm #2098899@ulysses The PA I'm talking about was a popular creator on Rendo, then moved to Daz but was pissed off at AI, so left Daz as well. The person wasn't a small creator and their assets were popular on both Daz and Rendo.
October 30, 2024 at 1:02 pm #2098909@ulysses, Amen! I've campaigned for that and folks seem to have accepted it.
The creators from 3D Shards and that brilliant artist, Summoner over at Freedom-of-Art, are two creators who we should (and do) support.October 30, 2024 at 1:07 pm #2098912Not getting points for login is going to be hard on many people. Also, expiring points? Are we Renderotica now? I am afraid the entire points system will lose all of its appeal. When I initially joined, I hadn't even realized that I had points piling up because I didn't download much and I was essentially browsing. Then one day I went "Oh wait..." and started buying with my points and requesting stuff. I am by no means a rich guy, but when I can spare a purchase, I try to fill requests... however, not getting the login points will make it very hard. Don't get me wrong, I am aware that point farming is a real problem but once again, a few assholes abusing the system shouldn't be what kills it all for the normal folks.
October 30, 2024 at 2:45 pm #2098931I already hate the points economy on here as it stands but removing daily log in points AND having them expire is just going to push me to go back to saving up and buying stuff on daz.
October 30, 2024 at 3:00 pm #2098933This was all nice while it lasted I think I"ll use up the rest of my points and move on. My reasons for coming here had nothing to do with paying for content and posting it for others to down load for free. That was your job. I might, on occasion, drop something to download but I didn't come here to jump through hoops just to find a decent hair or make-up package.
If someone is using this site to pad their own wallets, then hey, let them. That is precisely what you are doing, so it comes across as hypercritical to be getting mad because others are doing it.
The other sites I use have more content with their own hoops to jump through, but at least my only means of accessing them isn't being taken away.
I don't have the time or money to buy shit just so I can get a few points to cover the cost other shit.
October 30, 2024 at 3:13 pm #2098936@warrant63 : "Just a small addon: The "maybe" list doesn't mean at all that we will implement everything.
The point expiration requires a brand new DB and plugin set, so I would say there is a very low % for this to be added (also as I said we survey your feedback, and so far everyone said meh, so it's pretty much settled)."
Can anyone read?
[EDIT] I really don't want to comment post above this one... I guess admins are obligated to buy and post stuff so he could download it for free, no? Because he honored them with his mere presence lol.
October 30, 2024 at 4:04 pm #2098950Regarding the point expiration system, it would have required equal commitment from all users regardless of their current points balance. Without any expiration, those who have already accumulated like 200K points or more can sit back and reap the fruits of their savings for the rest of eternity while ONLY the new users need to struggle to maintain a healthy balance of points inflow and outflow.
There is nothing that I see in the current system that would MANDATE the existing point hoarders to contribute any further.
I say this since I have seen only a handful of high rankers filling requests, but there seems to be a much higher number of hoarders whose contribution I have not seen yet.
There is a good chance, however little it might be, that some of the hoarders have already gamed the system so far to accumulate those points. Without the need for any further commitments they are now immune from any risk of loss.
On the implementation front, I believe, it only requires a scheduled batch job to be run on the database at specified intervals. I do not understand the need for a separate database or plugin system if the existing database design can be adapted to accommodate the batch operations.
October 30, 2024 at 4:08 pm #2098951"Expiration of points? While I'm not here for the points, I do like having them on hand for when I want something. I don't think it'll incentivize anyone, and more likely to piss people off."
Absolute agreement!
October 30, 2024 at 5:05 pm #2098964Giving penalties or reward for reporting is a bad idea imo. Despite always searching before posting an item/request, I end up reposting something from time to time because the OP didnt put the correct name in the title. I must also mention that the search bar is super finicky. Forgot an ''S'' at the end of a word? Well that's a ''No result found'' for you.
If you want to lower the numbers of repost, dead post once reposted should be removed entirely. I just dont see why an item that went dead in 2017 should stay on the blog forever. It only make the dead post list bloated, hard to search and create dupe post.
One other thing i want to mention is that whole thing about securing the rights to share something because you shared it privately first is a bit absurd. Maybe if its from a small vendor from a small store front you can have an argument. But stuff coming from the daz store? Including the golden tickets items? You know, the item that if you put in your cart, not only it end up becoming ''free'' but it also lower the cost of your whole cart? Literally thousands of people are buying that item that day.

.....so Daz is doing great? and here I thought....October 30, 2024 at 6:17 pm #2098978I've always had around 100K points because I don't buy much and my occasional posts bring in a steady income. I give a lot of points to contests just to get rid of them and wouldn't mind seeing them expire after a certain amount of time. I'm also thrilled that we're not getting them automatically anymore. That just made people not bother posting and I'm sure a lot of folks felt (and still do) entitled to free content.
I'd like to see a requirement to post something every six months or so as I hate people getting a free ride. You don't get free food or a free car so why should you feel that it's your right to get completely free content for a program that's already free?October 30, 2024 at 6:19 pm #2098981I would advice against making judgment on how Daz is doing by chit chat from forums like these. Daz is estimated to make 30M per year while a software company like Maya only make 4M annually. Maybe not the best comparison but still.
