I genuinely understand why people choose to share with a select few, as opposed to sharing with the community, as many have been burnt by those who abuse their trust. However, by failing to share with all of those who have requested an item, those who choose to share privately are having a detrimental effect on the community at large.
I can understand not sharing with those who have proven themselves to be untrustworthy - they should be cut off immediately, but to exclude a whole group of people and instead choose to share with a handful of those who are known to you will only result in people turning away from the site.
When I have the cash to spare, I fill requests and share with everyone who pledged points. Some I upload to the blog; others; I don't. However, if someone uploaded one of the items I shared with them in requests to the main blog, I would be a little annoyed, but not enough to make me black mark the majority of people who request an item and share with a few, only.
I know this is happening, because assets that are popular are remaining static in the request section and the points pledged have declined, due to private fills. I have a real mind to absolutely blow my credit card up by filling ther majority of requests in the request section in an attempt to break the stagnation caused by private sharing.
April 16, 2025 at 12:07 am #2125297While it undoubtedly went on since the beginning of the site, you can thank one of the mods for taking it to the next level. Having a Discord site rather than communicating here probably hasn't helped the situation. Supposedly it was set up incase the site folded but It's probably used for trading instead. No idea since I didn't join. I'm not totally innocent. I've done a few trades behind the curtain but it's very rare and I've not shared anything for awhile. So take my hypocrisy lightly.
Few interact with the community. Even fewer post art. Sharing is not only reduced because of the mine complex but a lot of people have went to AI. It's just another casualty of time. I'm used to it now. There are literally hundreds of other things you can do besides Daz.
I'm probably gonna replay an old game called Vampire the masquerade: bloodlines. Hopefully it's not infected or corrupted. Much more fun than making art you'll never post.
Save your cash. Buy a few you really like to share. A few will appreciate it but most won't. The whales that don't already have it will still download it because they think it's owed to them the leeches will as well. If you fill anything, thanks ahead of time. If you don't, buy a cool game like Baldurs Gate 3
April 16, 2025 at 2:42 am #2125306I just got an old share reported as dead and I used to jump on these and renew them but I don't think I could be bothered anymore. The site is dying and competitions and even sharing art is virtually dead, everything apart from those just grabbing stuff and running away.
I don't expect it to be like the old days. It's just what happens to some sites sooner or later.April 16, 2025 at 5:34 am #2125308I use AI for two things, and two things only. To generate background scenery I cant find on here and as a tool in my workflow. AI will never create what I want no matter how good it is. What I do is do a render, then open in IMG2IMG and do a bunch of variations on a theme and then open the original render and the selected generation in Photoshop on my XP-Pen pro and get to work editing. I also have shared up as well publicly but I doubt I will be sharing more even though I just came back after a prolonged absence. Also because I am not making the leap to Genesis 9. If I do share it's probably going to be just props and environments when I get around to it.
April 16, 2025 at 8:17 am #2125313that endless blabbering about nothing. You can't learn a donkey to speak Spanish
April 16, 2025 at 9:22 am #2125316But the donkey can teach you Spanish.
April 16, 2025 at 10:47 am #2125321@d0gg0d I haven't joined the Discord site either; I had no idea that any behind the curtain sharing was going on over there. I just thought it was set up as a means of communicating with members in case there was a problem with the site. That is one sure fire way of killing the site. Like I said; I can understand cutting off the leeches and those who abuse trust, but it's not conducive to the health of the site to do it to everyone, bar a handful.
It seems to have gotten worse since the new request system was put in place. I remember when requesting was done through the thread, the new items requested - even the expensive mega bundles - would be filled on the same day as the request was opened - or the next. Now, sometimes the request is left languishing for weeks before it's filled.
I can personally buy an item I really need - that's no problem. It wasn't always the case, though; which is why the torrents and sites like this were a godsend. Most people join sites like this because they cannot afford to buy an asset they want. And, if new members - who haven't proven to be untrustworthy, are being snubbed when it comes to filling requests, then it defeats the purpose of the site. And, yeah; maybe playing a video game is the way to go, because, posting art here has become pointless now.
@frank22 It's disappointing, though. Deviantart is another example of a site that might as well be dead. I remember loving that site when I joined as a teenager back in the early days. The community was responsive and the feedback received was invaluable in helping a fledgling artist.I made a new account a couple of years ago and all of the people that I had been friendly with had either abandoned their accounts or deactivated. Very few people interact with each other anymore; it has just become a place to dump art and move on without receiving any feedback or many likes. Just to test, I uploaded a piece that I had originally uploaded on my old account back in 2010 - it had been the first piece to get a thousand plus likes - and waited to see what would happen. I went back a few weeks later and discovered that it had received just forty-two likes and zero comments. And, I can see the same kind of decay setting in here, sadly..April 16, 2025 at 12:06 pm #2125325Nothing is perfect, but I don't get all the negativity.
Alright, I will admit to some bias, but I think it is still the best site of it's genre, by some margin.A lot of the perceived decay has significant contributory factors beyond our control.
Daz's botched, rushed G9 launch which, in my opinion, it has never recovered from.
General quality standards have declined with that.
Much as I like it, 'Rosity took a big hit a while back, which it has yet to recover from.
'Rotica is still bimbling along & 'Hub has patchy quality & pricing.
I expect the situation will stabilise & hopefully improve. No matter what we do with this site, we cannot please everyone, we can only try to please the majority.
Having been a long standing regular at KAT when that was a thing, for the record, the only time I don't post my contributions to the blog, is when the item is take down bait. This is the only place I post to.
I really cannot get along with Discord at all.
Anything of value seems to be lost in the white noise.
I'm referring to Discord in general, not specifically the one for this site.April 16, 2025 at 8:23 pm #2125414Irony isnt your friend
Just because something is good doesn't mean it cant be improved. It also doesnt mean it cant get worse. Take Star Wars for example.
One person helped fan this flame and the mods graciously accepted them as one of their own. I lost most interests in caring about the site after that and come here out of habit. That or Im just curious.
G9 didnt help the situation. People needing ego confirmation that they are entitled to be worshiped because they post content and left when that bubble was popped to join the other whale gods in a circle jerk. AI has put a big kink in the market. Its probably a perfect storm of all things. I think the new daz user to be a bit rare with the abundance of alternatives. The lack of decent new content seems rare as well. Unless daz pulls a magic rabbit out of its ass its going to suffer. I thought poser would be dead by now but its somehow clinging on so it may be awhile
April 17, 2025 at 4:42 am #2125439LOL this thread turned into Curmudgeon's Yelling At Clouds in a hurry, didn't it?
April 17, 2025 at 5:17 am #2125441It's interesting how if you ask a cloud to leave it will eventually move on.
If you ask it to rain or stop raining it will eventually oblige.
Occasionally it will do you a favor and block the sun on a hot day.
For some reason it never asks much in return. Probably better to converse with the clouds than people in forums.
Just 2 days ago I wished for a nice overcast day and the clouds hooked me up. It was so nice of them to listen.
They didn't ask for points or need their ego stroked.April 18, 2025 at 12:21 pm #2125616I usually buy an item and wait for "some time" before filling a request... for a percieved protection from the site I purchased it from. And then I delay a bit more before I post it to the blog.... for similar reasons.
Don't use Discord... so I don't know if I'm missing out on anything.
"...people turning away from the site..."
Don't know how many members here... shit ton I guess. Most are leechers anyway, I'd hate it if some of the good guys left (bounty fillers as well as forum post reply-ers).I really don't buy the argument that
"Most people join sites like this because they cannot afford to buy an asset they want."So they can afford a computer, internet access, and a graphics card that can support iRay rendering, but can't afford some of the $4 items that get requested here? I'm guessing they're crying poor mouth via an app on their iphone 16 Pro Max with their $100 month unlimited package.
And you don't HAVE to just post requested items, hell, you can even post items you find that are freebies... you'd think that they would pay back the community in some way, even if it was a small one.
What gets my goat though, is the folks that only check in maybe once every two months, never post anything (to the blog or in the forum) but only seem to have time to clutch their pearls and report my Asset Images as inappropriate.
For fucks sake this is a PIRATE website.... get off the fucking moral high horse.
This one was taken down recently, I thought it was an instant classic (if I do say so myself)
April 18, 2025 at 1:26 pm #2125629Most people are easily capable of posting 1 item per year. Sharing at least 1 thing is still sharing. I could skip a meal and post something. Its about setting priorities and at least for me about principal. ATM I'm in the middle of buying a house on my wife's salary since I have no job.
I have a toddler that's more important to buy her food and diapers than it is to buy a digital barbie. HOWEVER even if I wasn't strapped for money ATM I still probably wouldn't post because of what went on here not to long ago and as long as I see one mods name in the mod credits I never will. (however I may upload very old content like V3-4) Take that however you wish but for me its a better reasons than I'm to cheap to spend $10Ive constantly argued people who share should get benefits like early access to uploads, perks like a signature or bigger avatar. argued for the community to get all uploads that were filled and not under gate keeping. Slowly being fed behind a never ending pay wall. I am very aware that at least one mod doesn't post content they have access to.
Nobody participates in community content like art contest or posting art. Mods use to hold regular events. Few even bother to participate in this forum. Its log in download log out. Honestly they don't even need to come here with the other sites ripping from here. Without community interaction this is just a candy shop for sister sites
April 20, 2025 at 11:36 pm #2125920Yep Adam the site needs a refresh. As far as the lack of participation in the Art Showcase and comps are concerned, they could provide better incentives like admin points or free products. Perhaps run the site more like a co-op rather than a business model.
April 21, 2025 at 2:55 am #2125935For all wondering about Discord, there's practically no members, and about one post every 3 years. There's no secret sharing going on behind scenes there. Not to say there isn't in private channels somewhere, but I'm solid certain it's not in sleepy ol' Discord.
