Well, since there is another thread where you can complain about Daz Studio, DAZ, Genesis HERE , let's talk about the positives in this one.

    1) Skin:

    Victoria 8

    Victoria 8.1

    Victoria 9

G8 has a definite "plastic" look. G8.1 is much more believable, but still lacks some details up close. G9...I can say that I am personally impressed.

The only thing that seems to be missing is "peach fuzz" but hopefully that will be addressed soon.

NOTE: As @anjabear mentioned, there was a peach fuzz with the Pro 8.1 characters, so most probably this one will have it too.

    2) Expressions:

    Victoria 8

    Victoria 8.1

    Victoria 9

V8 looks...awkward and weird. V8.1 Definitely looks like a huge improvement, but still off. V9...just wow!

    3) Unified Figure (Male-Female): I wasn't there for G1, when this was done the first time, but I can see why Daz decided to move back to it:

    a) The market for male figures is tiny. This somehow alleviates the problem.
    b) We benefit since a lot of products can not be used for both F and M without having to buy both versions and not needing a conversion. I am thinking about "wound" morphs, horns, wings, etc... saving $$$, HDD space, and time to install products.
    c) PA don't have to waste their time making a version that very few people are going to buy.

    4) Double mesh density: This would mean that all the nice girls we get from 3rd party stores can now have more geometry! And to say I was already impressed with some Rendo vendors (Vicey3d, HID, IST to name a few) I can't wait to see what thay will be able to cook up now!

And of course...bluejuante for V9? Just imagine that guys 🙂

G9 Base Mesh (Left) vs G8 Base Mesh (Right)

That's it from me for now. Certainly, there are other features to talk about, such as

"Improved for posing and animation", but I haven't seen much of that yet to have an informed opinion.

PLEASE KEEP IT IN THE POSITIVE! LET'S LEAVE THE COMPLAINING OFF. THANKS!

I'd really like to see what G9 is capable of on one hand I'm excited on the other I'm cringing waiting to be disappointed , but as we have all seen Daz has made improvements with their characters each time a new generation comes out -- I hope this one blows all the others out of the water and my mind . 🙂

and ya with Halloween on the way maybe we will see some super cool characters with the launch of G9. 😮 🙂 :)-- lets hope !

I'll be the first (second) to add some positives.

    - The renders are good

    ...

No, but legit, there are (seemingly*) more, of course. Updated everything means potential ease of use, better compatibility (possibly*) with other programs, maybe a better rigging (tbd*).
The renders of the above are somewhat misleading, of course. You can get a lot better out of V8 and V8.1, even without tweaking MATs, it just comes down to scene & lighting setup. Unless something earth-shattering comes with V9 shader-wise (other than 8K maps), I don't predict much of a difference or improvement on the materials front, since it's still DAZ Iray it has to be churned through. But the morphs and expressions do look next-level better (from the currently available images*), and it does seem like an actual upgrade.

*All of this is, of course, from a somewhat distant perspective. Will be weeks before anyone in the public has access first-hand, so quite a lot of conjecture at this point is unavoidable. From the presentation, and the landing pages, it looks pretty good. More than just a bit of hard work went in, to be sure.

"The only thing that seems to be missing is “peach fuzz” but hopefully that will be addressed soon."

I don't see vellus hair being part of a G9 or V9 download. I imagine that will stay 3rd party, as it did/does with other Gs.

I'm really interested in finding out who the original sculpture artist(s) is(are).
Hyeseon Oh's Victoria 8.1 (and Yannek) was a small masterpiece. Not enough credit goes back to that (those) artist(s) in general, but especially from DAZ for some reason. I'm hoping that won't be a trend with V9. A simple blurb would be great for the artist(s), even and especially right now before release. A permanent landing page at DAZ would be even better, and only proper thereafter.

So we will get 2 unbalanced threads? :0/

    OK 🙂

@eelgoo We need to keep balance in the force? 🙂

    "REAL WORLD PROPORTIONS"

That's a major plus imo. Ever since V4, the base figure has had the body of a Vegas stripper with comical breast implants. Good move from DAZ.

I am not into super close up renders, so have no need of resource sapping detailing, but other than that I'm in very much in favour of anything that adds to realism.

Someone mentioned, "Peach Fuzz" you know that there will be a VELLUS pack supplied with the base, as they did with G8 and G8.1... VELLUS = PEACH FUZZ.

im more excited for the separate eyes and mouth so i can make better morphs without worrying about getting the eyes right, this for me is a game changer

@Dazdeviant I wanted to mention something about that, but I am not savvy enough to know how powerful of a feature it could be.

From what you say, I suspect we are going to see some PAs making new HD eyes sold separately for even greater realism.

I also see that (No.9) can be a revolution.
But honestly, I cannot judge about something I don't see myself.
Let's hope for the best. It will surely be good.

I'm curious about what they have come up with for the "improved posing and animation". It's a very vague claim.

Yeh @Legolas18 “Improved for posing and animation“ is a bit of a mystery atm. It suggests that G9 joint bending will be improved, and as for "animation" maybe DS5 will have improved animation capabilities, but who really knows.
The G9 expressions do look a lot better but that may just be the expressions used rather than the model itself.
We'll have to wait to see if it's a real revolution, or something less.

I hope the bones in the hands are more detailed and the thumb has better manoeuvrability.

Yes let's hope G9 "improved posing" fixes the hand grasp (thumb) issue. Opposable thumbs being a crucial evolutionary advantage in humans from some 2 million years ago that Daz has somehow neglected.
I inherited hitchhiker's thumb from my father's side of the family. Placing me ahead on the evolutionarily scale of most mere mortals.
