I'm glad you tried it and are preaching the good news. When I say it no one believes because it's Hip and Cool to not like the new thing. Gen 9 makes morph making a breeze, perfect for beginners. Textures too, Less maps make the process so easy and straight forward.
Genesis 8/8.1 had too many maps, and floating geometry. The eyes which composed of multiple layers and the mouth had to be removed everytime you wanted to wrap for conversion. It was mind numbingly complex. Wrap has a feature called "Fix symmetry" which essentially balances out the left and right side, or even completely prioritizes one side. This was impossible to use back with 8/8.1 because of the floating geometry. I got to use it for the first time on Gen 9 and it honestly changed the game for me.

November 11, 2022 at 9:48 am #1888614So does that make it any easier to convert G9 to G8.1 ?
:0/
November 11, 2022 at 10:21 am #1888656Nope, unfortunately. Converting anything to G8/G8.1 is a nightmare. Having the mouth, eyes and teeth apart of the main mesh means constant issues having to fix and fixing them is super tedious and unfun.
If you like older characters, Gen 9 is the way. You essentially have all those characters ready for you to use. Conversion is enjoyable, minimal issues with mouth and eyes, Doesn't take long and the textures are easy to convert.
November 11, 2022 at 10:25 am #1888658Well that has to be a positive.
Given that that is the case, all they have to do now is improve the G9 base in quite a few key areas.

November 11, 2022 at 11:12 am #1888680It's Jay on the DAZ channel. Here's the playlist.

I'll stick by what I said before about conversions. For instance don't bother trying to wrap V4 around G9 it's a mess, just use the old way with GenX. So that's V4-Genesis etc to G3 with GenX then G3 to G8 with XTransfer. When converted they can be used in Wrap4D with G9. Don't forget to pose your clones as close as possible in Daz Studio to save youself perhaps a lot of time lining them up in Wrap4D.
Here is a link to Highlanders Eye & Jaw Morph Fixer I use when conversions or head morphing goes wrong. Other tools to fix the body and symmetry are also on his page.

November 11, 2022 at 12:49 pm #1888733@InverseKinematics I do V4 direct to Genesis 9. Here's an A-Pose pose for Poser. Load your V4 character, Inject the morphs you want then use the pose to get the character in A-Pose. Export the OBJ (make sure it's not wearing anything of course), then import it to Daz Studio using the Poser preset. Export the Obj again from Daz Studio using the Daz Studio preset.
This makes the models relatively the same size and fit for Wrapping.
You could wrap straight from there, though I usually adjust a few things first:
I've never used poser before so I find my model tends to look somewhat distorted, the morphs injected aren't smooth (tend to look blocky) and the model comes with Nipples and a navel built in. This is likely just me doing things wrong. I'm not sure how to fix that in poser so I just load the OBJ in blender and smooth them using the sculpt mode. The model also has fused in Eyelashes, in Blender I delete them by going into Edit mode, selecting them using the material zone tab. This gives you a model that is completely ready to wrap.If you want to go a step even further, I would recommend increasing the height of your Base Genesis 9 to match the V4 shape (You can do this while you re-export it from Daz) and maybe even dial in the Genesis 2 clone that Genesis 9 has built in. I just exported this edited Base obj as Genesis9_Tall for whenever I wrap V4.
Everything is the same after that like you would wrap any other geometry. If you matched the height with the V4 model you won't even have to select point pairs or anything fancy. Just wrap the model.
November 11, 2022 at 2:26 pm #1888797Thanks for the info and the pose file. It's been a long time since I've used Poser, almost a decade in fact.
Last night I ported a V4 shape with G9 into Wrap with the G9 height adjusted, the legs, feet and hands didn't match. My laziness got the better of me so I abondoned it. I'll have another bash this evening with your recommendations.
November 14, 2022 at 5:18 pm #1890100There was a Thread a while back about converting V4 to 8.1... interesting that we are now with G9
I'd love a G9 Conversion of AerySoul/Awful/Souls Aeon Soul's Alice.
Its was V3 then V4... I thought I saw somewhere that there was a private G3 Versions floating around... But never found it.
Its the model used for all the Aery Soul stuff
But I am sure it has been updated by AS, just never released. You probably don't need points, but I'd gladly throw 5K your way if you (or someone) made an AerySoul Alice G9 and stuck it on the blog.
There are a few different versions of Alice, the conventional wisdom is that the "Alice 5 for V4" and maybe this one
Was the "core" used in the later AS G3/G8 models.
November 14, 2022 at 10:50 pm #1890227November 14, 2022 at 11:35 pm #1890243I'll give it a shot. I love Aeon Soul's model. Never knew it was available, let alone for V4.
November 14, 2022 at 11:47 pm #1890246Alice, which is shown in the above renders, is the work of aeonsoul herself, it was recreated from scratch - she wrote about this on the official daza forum - and it has not been published anywhere ....
There are one or two renders for deviantart - with the g3 transferred to the base - there in the comments aeonsoul praised the author for the work - I could not find this render .... But the old Alice is very different from the new one: for example, here are renders ported from v4.I have these morphs of both versions of alice for r8 - if necessary, I will share them.
November 15, 2022 at 2:27 am #1890276The THREAD here at the zone regarding V4 to 8.1
From @bulka
"But the old Alice is very different from the new one: for example, here are renders ported from v4."Agreed... but your links are to pics of the "Earlier" Alice, that was more sinewy/lean. The last iteration does look "closest" to the G3/G8 Promo... here is another look at "Alice Skin, Bodymorphs and Yly Face (NLA)"
And here is a promo pic for "Alice 5 for v4", which was at Deviant Art at some point, but now 404
(NSFW) And Here is a pretty good Rendition of Alice At Deviant Art using the Alice 5 version (NSFW!)
November 15, 2022 at 3:08 am #1890284@Redflag In order not to wait for a long time - viewport screen:
G8 base - transfer tool - gen2x.
This is Alice V4:And this is Alice V5:

I don't have native textures - that's why I used Jade from Mousso.....
November 15, 2022 at 5:15 am #1890297What a sad commentary on G9 when people are talking about converting a decade old character.
Albeit G9 bends no better than V4/4.1 ever did so why not. Daz's great new figure has the same glaring joint bending issues as V4 had some 16 years ago.... what a stupid situation we mugs are in.November 15, 2022 at 12:53 pm #1890501@Frank22 Quite the opposite actually!
We're making use of features we didn't have on older generations to revitalize older models to the new generation. For converters like me, bringing out higher definition in older models brings the same joy as setting up and rendering dream scenes from your favorite films might for you. Gen 9 is perfect for that. Double density base mesh, easier material groups, separated Eyes and mouth. Gen 9 is a morph makers dream. If anything it calls for celebration, G9 has reignited the fire for conversion. Models you never thought could be converted, now can.Loving something old isn't a stupid situation. Finally being able to use something we loved for so long is a better commentary of G9 than I could think of.
