That sounds a good step forward.
I think the ideal would be a G9-G8/8.1F Character Converter script, so the installation of all the G9 bloat wasn't required.
January 4, 2025 at 9:40 pm #2112077Can't recall if I asked this before but is there a good tutorial for converting skin textures via Blender? I'm handy enough with Blender but I'd need a steo-by-step for converting skins between figures. Just thought it would be really nice to have some G9 skins I like on my G8 figures, and don't wanna shell out for Ultimate Unwrap3D. Thanks in advance!
January 4, 2025 at 10:13 pm #2112079I've also got plenty of points to spare if anyone knows a user on this site who does a good job of conversions in exchange.
January 5, 2025 at 1:38 am #2112096I'm not really convinced of the superiority of G9 skins for general use.
Obviously, there are good mediocre & bad of all things.
What I would like to see are the better G9 character morphs ported over to G8f / G8.1F
There are plenty of decent G8F skins available.
January 5, 2025 at 2:18 am #2112105I'd have to agree with that eelgoo. In general the G9 skins have been underwhelming. While the 8K normal maps may be good for close-up portraits (debatable), in many cases it's just putting lipstick on a pig if you don't have a good diffuse map to go with it.
January 6, 2025 at 1:41 am #2112269Yep. Completely dropped 9 from my library.
January 6, 2025 at 3:38 pm #2112357The only G9 stuff I use is some of the better hair & clothing items. :0/
Converted to G8 obviously!
January 9, 2025 at 7:39 am #2112722I don't mind G9 but you have to really fiddle with the bend morphs to get them to look realistic (usually the back of the thighs looks messed up without tweaks).
There's also no good quality genital assets for G9, especially female, they just don't look as realistic as something like Dbxxx-xx
January 13, 2025 at 10:13 pm #2113385I also wait for a good converter, since I saw some decent morphs and characters that I want to use in genesis 8/8.1

April 8, 2025 at 9:51 am #2124506Yes, that is worth a reminder.
Thanks for the trouble.
April 8, 2025 at 9:55 am #2124507sharecg has now vanished.
Would you be able to upload that tool you mentioned, please?
Thanks.

April 10, 2025 at 11:39 pm #2124797Not beating the drum for G9 here, I haven't used it but hear bad things...
If you're dead set on manual install, and you HATE "uninstalling" because of the pain factor, try this analgesic:
Simply keep your generations, categories, test subjects, etc. in separate libraries. It's simple to make a "quarantine" library and add it to Daz's search path. If you hate it and want it gone, it's a simple matter of removing the library from the path. You could actually make a separate library for every product, but that might get cumbersome on its own... but testing out a new product, it just makes sense. When you're satisfied it should be a permanent addition to your runtime, move that library's contents to your main library, whichever one that is.
And converters & converted assets are the work of angels, always welcome here!
April 11, 2025 at 6:01 am #2124820Set up separate content libraries is probably the easiest way. Content3, Content8, content9. Just dump everything into each. I started testing characters this way and if I didn't like them I could delete all their files with a click.
Lots of talk about how great 9 is but I've yet to see anyone post evidence.
