    ' I really do like some of the chars and shapes being offered up for G9 (mainly head/face, and some bodies), and would still like to implement on G8/8.1. '

    Yup, me too.

    I would certainly like to be able to do that without installing G9 bloat.

    I have Richard's G9-G8 Clothing/Hair conversion clone, which works very well BTW.
    Perhaps that could be utilised? :0/

    @spats

    If I had early access to Beta testing G9 it wouldn't have been released in it's current form. Nearly all the G9 maps I own have to be tweaked or replaced if I want any realisitic look whatever the lighting. If it doesn't look good in a simple Iray render it won't end up being further inproved in PS. On a personal level I would dump PBR and go back to the Uber shader if I didn't have the ability to rework textures.

    Yep, the limbs are an eyesore to look at in some poses positions. The rigging is a mess and those eyes and neck both need to be tweaked if you are creating or porting custom characters from other generations. It's like a broken G8 all over again, so why buy more stuff and frustrate yourself for hours messing about with a broken figure if the obvious needs fixing first????. I've often wondered why PA's, or anybody for that matter haven't released some joint fixes like they did with G8. Perhaps a lot of the content creators have just given up on G9 in it's current state, I really don't know.

    DAZ is doing what it always does, the PA's will either create content for the new gen figures or create nothing at all. If G9 really is in high demand then we'll see the same old stuff (as we are now) being churned out. Advertising is a powerful thing.

    Gaming characters are my only real interest. If I see a character worth keeping I'll rework it for better results. G8 is a lot more user friendly in that Dept.

    Some merchants are sticking with G8 / G8.1 at propriatory stores.
    Less so at Daz, probably no surprise or coincidence there!

    Chiming in to say I also appreciate G9 to G8 conversions. Very happy to see this thread and a lot of the great info folks have posted here.

    I suppose I'd be just as fine with the other way, if all those great G8 characters, clothes, and hairs were converted to G9... but who has that kind of time? Hah!

    @eelgoo

    That is true, which makes me more determined to stick with Genesis 8.

    About the rigging issue with G9. I might, just might have found a fix.
    We know Daz Studio tools are next to useless in most cases if you're a serious content creator or someone looking to fix issues yourself. I was foolishly thinking the rigging system worked flawlessly and wasted hours trying to save a converted G9 character that wouldn't go out of shape once imported & posed. Then I remembered I had the Shape Rigger Plus script installed. It appears to have worked for one character, fingers crossed it'll work on others.

    Just out of curiosity, which G9 characters do you think are worthy of being converted?

    @inverseKinematics

    I have compiled a list.

    Most are 'OK's rather than 'would really like'

    As you might expect the ones nearer the top of the list are from the the usual suspects of better quality character merchants.

    Bluejaunte's Sepideh, CarbonCrow's Elanor, CJ's Elysia, Emrys' Marisela, HID's Ariel & Emmy.

    KOO's Emilie, RY's Tiffany, VYK's Milan & Sydney.

    Those are the one's currently at the top of my list anyway.

    BTW Could Richard's G9 G8F Clothing / Hair clone assist in the conversion process?

    🙂

    For me & I am sure for others, the intent is to get away from the woefully inadequate androgenous G9 base, and back to the proven G8F / G8.1F base.

    Sure she isn't perfect, but folk know how to minimise her inadequacies now, and play to her strengths.

    @eelgoo -- I can believe that. I haven't messed with G9 enough to see for myself, but it sounds like the uni-mesh approach has had some issues. I get the impression they went that route to make things easier/cheaper for DAZ and PAs to sell more items, rather than get a better for users.

    @inverseKinematics
    -- about which G9 characters we think are worthy of being converted, I'd be kind of interested in the more creature-like characters such as the HH Demon. Though I imagine that would be a bigger project given how much those change the base mesh. (I think a lot of those rely on geografts?)

    I gave Bluejaunte’s Sepideh a test run in Wrap4D but took it no further when the ears went out of shape. They appear to be doable but will need further tweaking in Blender, maybe. I'll give it another try when I'm back in my 3D mode and away from my daily grind.

    I downloaded Richard's tutorial and will watch it, thanks for reminding me. Everything helps.

    @fleshkage

    I think any character is reversible. But like I said to eelgoo, the converted character might need further work in Blender if things don't quite match up in Wrap4D. Ripping a tail from G9 and attaching it to G8 would be fun. Do you think the DAZ Police would come after me if I converted all their characters? :p

    @inverseKinematics , if you (or any one else) would convert any G9F characters by https://www.daz3d.com/justspitey or https://www.daz3d.com/mousso to G8F (I prefer G8F before G8_1F) I would pay a minimum of 20.000 points (and you can of course upload it to the blog).

    The ones I am most interested in are:

    https://www.daz3d.com/js-jenny-hd-for-genesis-9
    https://www.daz3d.com/mso-dola-hd-for-genesis-9
    https://www.daz3d.com/mso-carrie-hd-for-genesis-9
    https://www.daz3d.com/mso-maxine-hd-for-genesis-9
    https://www.daz3d.com/mso-sheena-hd-for-genesis-9-feminine
    https://www.daz3d.com/mso-danielle-hd-for-genesis-9-feminine
    https://www.daz3d.com/mso-christina-hd-for-genesis-9-feminine

    40.000 points each for those.

    Richard Yan, @Windreaver0118 , did an excellent conversion of https://www.daz3d.com/js-sarah-hd-for-genesis-9 but it takes some time to do the conversion so I am hoping more people could find the time to do it!

    NOTE!: I am only asking for the head morph, not body morph or skin. It's also NOT necessary with HD morphs.

    I wrapped Bluejaunte’s Sepideh last night but it looked like roadkill when the Lattice node was applied. I'll have to read up on how the other Wrap nodes can help.

    @chonakz

    I will try converting a few Mousso characters and see what gives.

    Bluejaunte’s Sepideh conversion is going fairly smoothly. I haven't corrected eyes or teeth. Still working on textures, but the results are promising. Just using Daz Studio for the morph and Ultimate Unwrap for the textures.

    That is definitely coming around nicely.

    Nice. And when you're done just remember to convert all the other G9 characters 🙂
