Darwinius is a genus of of basal primates from the Eocene epoch. Only known species is Darwinius masillae, dated to 47 million years ago. Length up to 70 cm. The only known fossil, named " Ida", was discovered in 1983 near the village of Messel, about 35 km southeast of Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
