Hi all. I've been using Daz for 5 years now and never used Poser before that.
Considering Daz is free and Poser isn't, I suppose there is something in Poser we don't have in Daz. So my dumb and somehow lazy question is : what is it ?
Cheers
November 27, 2018 at 5:47 pm #859286Now that is an interesting question.
I think you are going to get different colours of responses on that one.I was a Poser user from 4 onwards.
Initially I didn't gel with DS 1 & soldiered on with Poser up to 11 IIRC.
As soon as Iray appeared, being an ultra-realism freak, I made a determined attempt and it gelled really well for me.Wouldn't go back now.
🙂
November 27, 2018 at 6:27 pm #859318i think that poser has some more content creator type things (hair, cloth and face room and I think a game system and better animation tools and a physics engine) but DAZ has pushed and then made some plugins for free that fill that gap a little.
i used poser for a long time, but really got tired of spending $$ on updates that really didn't help me much.
for static stuff i like DAZ.November 27, 2018 at 10:30 pm #859515Interesting. So Poser is more animation oriented ? I wasn't aware Poser had a physics engine. Does it handle fluids and particles for example ?
November 29, 2018 at 12:03 am #860894A wise man once said there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.
I tried Poser many years ago, can't even tell you what version it was, I got it courtesy of a Torrent 😀 I found it extremely complicated and difficult to use, DAZ is like Plug n' Play and Poser is more like Source Code 😀
November 29, 2018 at 1:02 am #860953Oh, there are plenty of stupid questions. This isn't one of them, though.
Poser has (to some extent) better "3D" feel - the overall GUI is better, AFAIK. The "problem" with Poser (currently) is that it doesn't work with newer than... is it Gen 3? - which means that any benefit in higher density models and such is not beneficial for Poser users.
It does have "better" handling of actual poses and such, as I've understood it, but DAZ in general has a LOT more content, and handles most of Poser-content without issue, so... why would you use anything but DAZ?
November 29, 2018 at 2:51 am #861027You can import up to Genesis 1 & 2 into Poser, plus Poser has it's own native base characters, and tons of 3rd party base characters(most are Daz)
December 1, 2018 at 4:03 pm #864406In my experience the big divide between Daz users and Poser users is the interface. I've used Poser since Poser 2 and I'm used to it. 3DSMax and Maya have a similar feel. DazStudio's interface is totally different and it takes me a LONG time to set up stuff in DazStudio versus Poser.
That was before DazStudio v10, now it's not usable at all, I can't download stuff from Daz3D into DazStudio, the library paths are hidden from you. It is PAINFUL for me to try to use it. A scene could take me 40 to 52 hours to set up in DazStudio to render it takes me 24 minutes in Poser.
December 1, 2018 at 7:32 pm #864617I dont use Poser much myself for reasons I will not go into. I still have it installed and use it now and then, though not very often. But this what I have to say between the differences that come to mind. Poser had Dynamatic clothing long before DAZ had it and what support DAZ has for OptiTec(?) Dyna clothing is nothing compare to Poser. In fact I never got it to work. I remember using a Taper parameter in Poser which never imported or appeared in Studio. I also believe it is easier to change and re-arrange and modify the Poser UI to suit your own taste then it is DAZ.
December 7, 2018 at 7:05 am #871846A bit late to the show but Dressing room and the morph tool are nice. At least to me. However, Ive not used it for a few years. When I came back I picked up Daz since it was easy to get free and the KATs lives ran out. Poser from what I understand doesnt easily support the newer Genesis content and IMHO G3 and G8 are Vicky Busters. Eventually G9 ect... And artists are on the Genesis band wagon. Renderosity content sucks compared to what Daz3d is kicking out weekly.
December 7, 2018 at 10:07 am #872021Well considering what I've read here, I see no point in trying and learning Poser right now. Daz already has so much to offer and to discover I'm gonna stick on it for a while.
December 9, 2018 at 12:09 pm #874603I would like to know of the people here that use both Daz and Poser whitch one does a nicer render and could they prove it buy doing renders in both with same assets showing what one is better.
December 9, 2018 at 12:53 pm #874634Better is so subjective.
It really depends on your own preferences.
From my perspective, DS knocks it out of the park, because I am into ultra-realism & single frame renders. For those that are into fae, anime or animations, they are going to have different views.
🙂
December 22, 2019 at 12:00 pm #1388977An introductory episode of the third movie from the trilogy about the lost Planet, created at the XXI Century Petrov Productions studio in 2018 by an engineer from Moscow Petrov Dmitry in his spare time on his home computer. I really hope that there are no Russophobes among you. 🙂
I do not speak english. Therefore, I created a special version with English subtitles and published it on Vimeo. This episode was created in Bryce, Poser and After Effects in 4 months. If someone can show another example of animation in DAZ Studio for comparison, then you can do it now. I am more than sure that DAZ Studio cannot boast of animation that can be created in such a short time. All the same, DAZ Studio is a program for creating static images that are indistinguishable from photographs. But this statement also has a subjective view.
December 22, 2019 at 1:15 pm #1389065You can laugh for a long time, but I use Poser 4.2 (2001 release). This is the most stable version of the program and it creates the clearest images after rendering. This version has several major flaws. This is a limitation of the memory used and does not support languages other than English in the library. In addition, this version is not supported in Windows 7 and above, and you must select the program launch mode for Windows XP SP2. Despite this, I always prepare projects for visualization in Poser 4.2. Working with animation in Poser 4.2 is the most convenient of all subsequent versions. The developers of new versions managed to break all the best that was in Poser 4.2.
