I see lots of good quality realistic looking items available in 3DMax format.
How easy is it to get them usable in DS, please?

If they are in the .max format then they can be a pain to convert to a format that can be used in other apps. IIRC you can only really convert them in 3Dmax itself, but if they are in .3DS format then there are a lot of apps such as Blender that can be used to convert them into a DS friendly format.
