<rant>
There should be more (ie variety) of clothing options for men. *sigh*
</rant>Feel better now. 😜
September 4, 2018 at 5:23 PM #745246OK....My turn.
Too much skimpy fantasy wear & not enough real world clothing for all female characters.
🙂
September 4, 2018 at 6:17 PM #745289I like this. I'll bite!
Vendors should always create their clothing products for both G8F AND G3F. There are so few differences between the two figures that there really is no reason for more than 80% of the new clothing products being exclusive to G8F.
September 4, 2018 at 8:40 PM #745429Rik Packham: Agreed.
Eelgoo: I don't mind the abundance of skimpy fantasy wear, but i agree with having more variety of real world clothing. (Feel that a lot of the real world clothing are a bit redundant.)
Mystic Fortune: Totaly agree!!! The difference between the Gen8 pose and all the previous generation is scarce but still impacfull. ( Going from the traditionnal "T" pose to a "A" pose) It do give an annoying manual conversion/correction to do to fit to new cloth to the old generation. At least making the cloth having a version for both Gen8 and Gen3 is solving the problem with making a small but important bridge between that "T" pose and the new "A" pose.
Eh! This is fun. Now my turn!
My semi non-important rant is about the lack of long female hair with rebel/wavy strand or lock of hair in them. Either in the back of the hair or on the top of the head and in the bangs.
I'm not talking long hair that goes in the middle of the back, i'm talking VERY long hair. Fantasy hair that goes all the way down below the knee, near the ankle.
Something that would look close to this!!!
I don't know. I've searched for weeks and months to find a hair that would look close to this and i've never been able to find one. In the end, i did find that hair:
https://www.daz3d.com/goddess-hair-18974But even if the lenght and the style is good, the hairs is all sleek and flat, with no volume, rebel strands or any wavy ends like in the picture i've linked above. 🙁
I feel that all the hair that are long or very long are all like that. Sleek with no volume. Is it because making very long hair with a lot of fantasy rebel strand are just impossible to do ?!?
Anyway, if anyone reading this have seen hairs that would look close to what i've linked in the picture above, please just let me know.
September 5, 2018 at 2:33 PM #746494Can I mention the absolute SHODDY asset-creation? There seems to be no actual quality control at DAZ itself, and (more understandable, although still not acceptable) definitely none at Rendo.
I mean... that something can get missed by a creator, sure. That the creator can't remember his own name (and WHY are we putting our own name in the damn file-paths?), and I therefore have at least 5 different directories with the same bloody creator... and so on and so forth...
(Also... create a fucking DIM, folks. Seriously. It takes about 2 minutes, at most)

I totally agree. I create outside of DAZ and use Marvelous, 3D coat, C4D, etc.. but if I ever release for trade or sale I ensure the content is good. I see some REALLY BAD stuff from Rendo/Daz community and there really isn't any excuse for it. If I wanted amateur looking silliness I'd go to blendswap. But for every 5 awful creations I see some really awesome stuff too so I can't complain, but there is definitely a lot of SHODDY assets thrown around.

DAZ has more apartments and swimming pools than L.A with more arriving each week.
I've seen some pretty cool CGI characters and clothing created in the likes of C4D, Maya etc by artists showcasing their wares for work in the games industry it makes some of DAZ's top rated CC's look like amateurs.
See ArtStation for examples of how imagination and an eye for detail are the way it should be done.

@norbertz - That is sort of an apples to oranges comparison. DAZ, like Poser is designed as entries into the world of 3d animation and character creation using primarily premade tools. Then you have more professional 3d modelling products like Zbrush and Cinema4d. You will usually get better results building and detailing your own models but once you go past a certain limit, it's not worth it to bring them into daz.

Not really. It's well known some of the creators have an arsenal of 1st rate software for creation. Some just don't seem that fussed when it comes to detail choosing to throw a 90% finished item into the marketplace.
I recall a few DAZ vendors adverts stating their items are "Carefully crafted in Zbrush" Just seems some don't know how to use the software correctly, or simply choosing not to bother with final detail to make the product stand out from the rest.
Or could it be they can't be bothered because DAZ fist them in the rear regarding their 50% cut, that and the vendor having to take peanuts for their item when sales are on a day or so after their item is released 🙂

@norbertz - I think you sort of missed the point. I'm not saying it cannot be done, I am saying it cannot be done and be utilized by the average DAZ user. I can make a beautiful asset, that renders up lovely and quickly, hyper detailed and beautiful that will weigh in over 7 million polys. However, in order to migrate that asset into DAZ, which does NOT like highly detailed, super high poly meshes (which is what the artists on ArtStation showcase), meshes have to be reduced, quality and details are reduced accordingly or wiped away and it's still going to require a huge amount of resources in DAZ iray all by itself. You cannot take, for example, a super high quality model, migrate it with full subdivisions, 8k texture maps and all the bells and whistles into DAZ and set it in IRAY AND still be able to render it along with other things in the scene without a major powerhouse setup for rendering. Take this from a girl who has a high end machine, 3 1080s, and is a huge fan of Substance Painter and C4D. The artists showcasing on ArtStation are using showcase quality renders which are not game ready, nor DAZ ready or optimized. If you manage to pull it into DAZ, and get it setup with the full showcase quality, without an Nvidia card with 12+ gigs of vidram, (usually more in the cases of uber detailed 12 million poly models) you won't be rendering it via GPU under Iray. A good example of that is to look at some of the stuff that is well detailed in DAZ, for example Hershel Hoffmeyers stuff like the Tactical assault outfit, or the Dinosaur queen outfits. Both are well detailed, and absolutely beautiful DAZ assets. Outfits no less, that weigh very heavily in DAZ out of the box for all the details. It's for that reason DAZ is not used to produce those production quality renders, the resource demands are astronomical compared to higher end programs such as Toolbag 3 which are better optimized for production quality renders.
TL;DR - There is a tradeoff in ease of use vs showcase quality.

FYI You're preaching to someone who's been doing digital work for years off and on. More off these days because of issues that come with getting older.
And I didn't miss the point. I resisted saying DS is a pile of crap and only good for rendering DAZ dolls.
I'm not saying people demand high poly items, just better attention to detail and some thought and time taken to make a product usable as in you seen in the real world so people don't have to hunt around for fixes.
I'm a Zbrush and Max user myself along with a few other apps. Been at it for over a decade and know what hardware is needed. As for the GPU part, no wonder many DS users are going back to 3d Delight (See the forums), the price of the newer GPU's are unrealistic for some, especially for the hobbyist who will render a scene for amusement then simply throw it in the recycle bin.
I assume you're a Pro? If so I'm glad to hear the money spent on your high end machine hasn't gone to waste on DS alone, because many really are suckered into the dream you can somehow be an elite artist by hitting a render button.

@norbertz - Fair enough, When I started, I didn't mean to preach a wall of text at you, I do sometimes tend to ramble. But your statement is truth regarding DAZ. It has uses, and for what it is, it does okay, but could be better. If only they'd optimize it better, especially the Iray engine as it's not even on par with most of the others.

No worries, you weren't rambling at all and I got your point 🙂
When you market an app such as DS for free you can kinda get away with all the flaws. Do that in a Pro-paid-for environment and you'd have a mob on your doorstep demanding it be fixed, and fast.
I run DS because I use Marvelous Designer. Other than that and a quick render here and there I have no other use for it. It's slow, it's free, and I shouldn't really complain 🙂

Free has its good points. Beginner's introduction to 3D artwork another. 😉
I'm 57, disabled, poor boy on the block, and crap at hand drawing artwork. I stumbled across Daz3D and EVER so slowly I'm learning the ins and outs, what works, what doesn't. (For instance, anyone knows where I can learn how to design seamless furries/anthros?)
Not saying I am an (M4 or V4) Elite 😜 artist when I hit the render button, though I do feel accomplished when it completes. 😎
I'll look for those threads on 3D Delight vs Iray, been doing a few Irays which takes 1-3 hours per. Haven't done a comparison between them to see if the time is worth the effort.
Thanx for the discussion you had.

I does when it doesn't collect your personal data, archive it, and probably sells it on for a fee 😉
Nothing is really free, everything has a catch. For seamless furries/anthros I suggest Maya or Zbrush, Gumroad is a good starting point for Tuts regarding creature creation and you can get a Maya 3 year student license for free. Shame Zbrush doesn't do this.
Iray needs a good GPU if you want speed.
Many are moving back to 3D Delight as a primary render engine because of the newer GPU prices. I mean $1000+ for a new Nvidia GPU is beyond most hobbyists budget. The hype surrounding the latest 2000 series cards has been called into question recently regarding Raytrace speeds, not to mention power consumption and heat.
Then you have unrealistic benchmarks which have never taken into account real world usage, and never will because it's bogged down by Win 10 and other apps running in the background. I could go on.... -
