As with character & texture packs, there is a lot of re-iteration & effective duplication going on here.
I am not convinced that modern bloated filesize hair products are really
that big an improvement over well crafted older hair products.
We are seeing some fine looking new hair products from the likes of OOT, Kool, Linday & Goldtassel,
but they at hefty file sizes and in most cases they are pretty resource intensive too.
SWAM seems to hit a good balance with their products.
Older hairs can be given a new lease of life with modern shaders, and whilst most
perhaps do show their age, they can still give very good results.
I quite often use a good quality V4 hair & am still happy with the results.
My particular favourites are those from Studio11 & Prae. So, as with character packs, I think what I am getting at is that big is not necessarily that good
& small is not necessarily that bad. What do you reckon?
🙂

August 27, 2018 at 7:41 AM #732798419k on fiber hair

more then twice the Render Face countsAugust 27, 2018 at 7:43 AM #732801Right, that is a big hit.
Perhaps I should review my wishlist. 🙂
August 27, 2018 at 7:48 AM #732809it looks great....but the huge trade off is not worth it most time
since i only have 4gb video memory, add a gf8, some clothes, etc and it dumps down to cpu render 🙂August 27, 2018 at 7:50 AM #732815Yeah, you are really going to need a simple optimised scene on that one! 😀
It is a shame, because as you say, that hairstyle does look great. :0/
August 29, 2018 at 9:44 AM #735483Hmmm...
It looks like AprilYSH should be added to the bloatware hair merchants.
Just extracted a couple of recent ones from her.
Over 800Meg each!

August 31, 2018 at 6:03 PM #739063I am currently rediscovering the old Daz3D Pure Hair's from the Genesis 1 generation.
Seem light on resource & look pretty good.

September 1, 2018 at 7:12 PM #740511I just got a query from @baf-mcnab about oriental hairstyles, which I am going to reply to here.
I take it you are meaning the more formal hair styles?
For the more casual look there are plenty of western hairstyles which look great on an Asian.
I took a quick look through my runtime & came up with this. This one looks good.

Of the older stuff we have:
Prae Neo Rose Hair
Val3DArt Natsumy HairVaguely oriental.
Nikisatez Ramos Hair
Silver Bailey Hair
Studio11 Rogue Tails Hair
Wolfie Sama HairQuite a few of the old but gold Mylochka Hairs, probably still over at ShareCG might be passable as oriental too.
September 1, 2018 at 7:26 PM #740525You see, this is why I was so keen to try to do my bit. Good folks here trying to help others is what it is all about. I will work through your list and many thanks for taking the time to post it.
I was talking more about ones like the nono, very simple in form and appearance, since I have a render in mind that would require maybe 6 Asian females 🙂

September 1, 2018 at 8:57 PM #740631@magtech2018 - any reason you haven't shared that hair-asset? Do you need anything to use it, besides DAZ and a model?
If you'd be so kind, I'd appreciate a share, as I would like to test it out.
October 9, 2018 at 5:25 PM #795022I would just like to add a note of another quality non-bloatware hair merchant.
