Hi there,
So there was an army of cars posted this morning. When I look at the refer pages, such as this one - https://hum3d.com/3d-models/dodge-charger-2011/There is a button on the page that opens a graph of the file types available (shown below). Daz is not one of the options listed. Can someone tell me if these work in Daz okay?
August 18, 2018 at 5:05 PM #721222That is... not known. They might work fine, and they might not. They will work, regardless (importing either the OBJ or FBX file), but there might be numerous problems.
Some of those potential problems are:
1. A single object file without surfaces - this leaves you with only the supplied textures, you will not be able to modify anything unless you separate stuff into separate surfaces (can be done in DAZ via the geometry editor, but it's slow and painful). Best bet is to open the file in a supported 3d-program (like 3D-studio) and create the surfaces and such there2. The FBX file is not rigged for DAZ, an will break apart the model when loaded (it's possible to put it back together, of course, but it's a slow process)
3. Rigging will 99% sure NOT work
I download these, because I like have lots of options, and I resurface them in 3DS before using them in DAZ (basically I build a very detailed surface set, containing many, many surfaces not originally in the model, even) - I haven't gotten as far as re-rigging things yet, though 🙂
August 18, 2018 at 5:11 PM #721228OK. Thanks for the reply. For me, since I am not technical, that is a resounding 'no'. :sigh: I waaanted that Cadillac! I have Daz software and that's pretty much it. I don't have 3D Studio or Photoshop or other stuff like that.
August 18, 2018 at 5:45 PM #721256Download it and try it. that's the only way to know for sure. I've had some good success with obj files in studio 4.10 but many times, things break. You learn by trying and playing with this stuff.

August 18, 2018 at 7:05 PM #721341The Cadillac does NOT work
I tested it a bit now, and it loads as an FBX, with fucked up positioning and the rigging not working properly.
It will need a rework to properly function in DAZ
August 18, 2018 at 8:22 PM #721388DAZ is based on geometry, the principles of light and color, anatomy, etc. It's not just a software program that lets us paint pretty pictures. To fully maximize the power of DAZ (or zBrush or blender or C4D or whatever), you will have to learn how these tools work. If you're happy with what you're already doing, then cool. But DAZ allows for a lot of neat stuff the more you learn the nuts and bolts. Not only does it allow you to create content or change existing content to better suit your needs - this would also allow anyone to learn other tools faster. Things like base color, translucency, opacity, bump maps, weight maps, textures, sss color, gloss color, smoothing, xyz axis, etc are pretty generic in all the software. Learn it in DAZ and then expand to blender (which is both free and powerful), where you can animate your art. Or export it into zBrush (not free but available here I think) and make your characters even more lifelike.
Not preaching. Just trying to expand you mind a bit.
August 19, 2018 at 4:34 AM #721800I am happy with what I am doing now. I appreciate your wanting to expand my horizons tho.
Thank you for checking it out @Errilhl
