So, do you think it's laziness or deceit when someone posts an item and does not label it as a Poser only item? I purchased such and item this morning.

I did write to the poster and asked for my 50 credits back and also let him know another item he just posted also was Poser only and not labeled as such. I only looked at 2 of his posted items, and 2 out of 2 were not labeled Poser only.

I am new here so I don't know how things go, but I have posted a couple items and it is not that tough to fill in the 'Compatible Software' box.

Have you tried using the content anyway?
DS seems quite happy dealing with Poser content, when installed correctly.
It doesn't like the MC5 (or is it 6 ?? ) files, but is fine with CRs & pz2
It doesn't understand Python scripts, but then neither do I. 😉
The main issue seems to be surfaces, which can usually be shaded or textured to an acceptable level quite easily within DS.

As regards the onus on uploaders, I think it is best to keep the process as simple as possible.
A lot of folks seem to struggle to get things uploaded correctly, at least at first.

    🙂

Are you speaking English here cause I have no idea what any of that means, haha! 🙂

I agree... too bad the ‘Compatible Software’ box isn't mandatory.

I did not try to upload it. I do not enjoy trying to 'make things work'. Messing around with stuff is not what I want to do with my time.

I did go back and look at the poster's history. He is only been here a couple weeks and none of his Poser only items are marked as such. I will just make a mental note not to get anything from him in the future.

Probably your best work around. 🙂

I think its up to the downloader to investigate the item/product that they are interested in downloading PRIOR to downloading. There is, 99% of the time, an original link provided to the item in order for the "downloader" to investigate.

Blaming the poster and implying laziness or deceit on their part is just laziness on your part for not doing your own homework, and it's actually quite rude. Especially having only been a member for 2 days.

    @Dragon
There is a ‘Compatible Software’ box in the upload template. I am guessing it is there for a reason. In all this poster's uploads, none of the ‘Compatible Software’ boxes are filled in.

What would you call this - 'great attention to detail'... 'great customer service'... what? What exactly would you call it?

I call it laziness or deceit. If you post several times, as this poster has, it's kinda hard to believe they did not see the ‘Compatible Software’ box.

I reject the notion that the poster has no responsibility to accurately describe an item. Is it okay to post things and mislead people either directly or indirectly?

Yes, I have been here only 2 days. Are you telling me nobody really accurately describes the items they are posting and that is de rigueur for this website? If not, what does that have ANYTHING to do about this situation?

It is MY FAULT the poster did not accurately describe the item when the mechanism is there to do so. The poster time after time refuses to do so and I am RUDE for wondering if they are lazy or deceitful?

Again, please, how would YOU describe such behavior?

The "Compatible Software" box is relatively new, IIRC, it's only been around for a couple months, at most. Before that, there was no such box, and hence no way (apart from writing it somewhere in the description or similar) to tell which software it was for.

With a bit of experience, you'll quickly be able to see what is made for what (and, basically, most content older than V6 is Poser-based, even if they're DAZ products (ie, they can be used without trouble even on old Poser versions)). Some people do still use Poser, and having Poser content is to be expected. I do appreciate it when it's labeled as such, of course, but Poser-content, in general, is perfectly useable in DAZ (although morphs and such might misbehave, and if you find for instance specific Poser-clothing and such, steer clear, is my advice) - but for the most part, all environments and such work perfectly fine in DAZ, although you might need to dig into Content Library to find the item.

@lapucelle I would call it doing what they were/are required to do in order to post a FREE item.
I would call it laziness on YOUR part for not investigating a product to see if it is compatible with YOUR programs. YOU 'assumed' it was. Thats on YOU, not them. There is no intent to deceive or mislead in ANY form, by not specifying compatible software. Its not mandatory to do so.
Coming in here and implying laziness and even worse, "deceit", IS rude, when the poster fulfilled their obligation for posting.
YOU have a responsibility to see if a product is compatible with what YOU have.
It only takes a "click" on YOUR part, to go to the original product page.
YOU need to take responsibility for your OWN inaction's, instead of blaming others for you lack of due diligence prior to clicking "Show Download Link".
    But lets delve deeper..

    ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ Tool...
    Salem for Genesis 8 Female...
    InStyle – Notorious G3F...
    Kilo...
    Fashion Dress 04 for G3F...
    Nature Shaders...

Where do you list what software its compatible with?
Do we all just "ASSUME" they are compatible with Poser and/or Daz Studio? Can I use these items in Maya, Bryce, Hexagon, 3DSmax? Are you trying to deceive us or were you just too lazy to apply the compatible software option?

Seriously.. I've downloaded stuff that was Poser Only and didn't know it until after. That was MY fault because I didn't investigate first.

Not everyone uses DazStudio. Just like not everyone uses Poser.

And yes, I'm saying most people don't list the compatible software every time. That includes YOU! If you're going to bitch about it, then you need to make sure your 'T's' are crossed, your 'i's' dotted and your toilet smells like roses EVERY time, needed or not.

Regardless of points here, IT'S ALL FREE!!!!

Just a heads up - as far as I know, putting the information into the fields doesn't really mean it will show up anywhere - I mean, it won't SHOW on the asset-page what compatibility is set, at least I can't see it anywhere. Perhaps during searches, I dunno, but currently, it seems like "this is a good idea, let's implement that" without actually following it up with a info-field on the asset itself.

Ahhh you are correct! @Dragon, I did put in the compatible software on all the items I posted. I do that because I specifically do not download the PS files from Daz, and I want people to know the Poser files are not there. Please see the screenshot of the page below showing the dropdown of items I have entered. I had no idea this was not working, and I concede the point that since it is not working, perhaps the poster did as I did, not knowing the thing didn't work in the first place, Lol. It is quite possible this poster is neither lazy or deceitful!

    @Dragon
, thank you for your... exuberant defending of the poster and thank you for not resorting to personal attacks... oh wait, nevermind on that part. I still believe a poster has the obligation to not be misleading, and you are more of a caveat emptor person. Agree to disagree.

It is important, based on my screenshot below and @Dragon investigative skill, that together we did prove (without a doubt ) that this option does not work at this time!

There was no personal attack. I stated facts. You didn't investigate before downloading. Thats on you, not everyone else. Period. Doesn't matter how you want to spin it to make yourself look righteous. This is a FREE site to SHARE and/or acquire FREE stuff.
Again, the poster fulfilled their required obligation. If you wanted more info about the item, then you should have clicked the product link.

To come in here and start spouting like you have? Nobody owes you anything.

On that one point... you are wrong. I loaned my friend Marti $1,000, and she is paying me back monthly. If you are trying to paint me as an entitled Millenial, it's a pretty silly assumption and I wish was I was anywhere near that age, LOL. At least you didn't call me a snowflake, I hear that is the pejorative word of the moment in forums.

At the end of the day we (you and I) proved that a certain option does not work. With that realization, it does not matter if the poster put in the info in that field or not, the outcome is the same.

I said earlier - I believe a poster has the obligation to not be misleading, and you are more of a caveat emptor person. Agree to disagree.

Did you miss that point? It does not matter if the item is free or cost $10, it is a fundamental difference on how we (you and I) view the world.

Do you feel 'better' about having this conversation? Are you 'happier'? I do. I am. To me it was important to learn that the compatible software box does not work.

Sure, it's tough to parlay with a person with a diametrically opposite viewpoint, but the end resulted in something constructive, concrete knowledge of an unknown.

I have no opposed viewpoint other than nobody here is trying to deceive you, mislead you or be lazy in their required obligation of sharing items, which is the ONLY obligation we all have.
My issue is you coming in and implying laziness and deceit without knowing/having the facts. You could have handled it in a more polite way.

I do see somewhat of an apology to the poster, so I will give you somewhat of a kudos for that, and call it a day.
