May 31, 2018 at 10:07 AM #624141Did the lighting come from the HDRi for this? It looks like she's in full shadow but the tree shadow cast on the ground tells another story. I think if she was under an umbrella or something that would block the light it would tie it in better but the difference in light and shadow detaches her from the background. At least in my eye.
May 31, 2018 at 1:52 PM #624310All hdri. I tried PSing footprints but it looked bad.
the hdri is blurry also which is a 2 edge sword.
I mostly wanted to render someone thicker than Jack Skelington and see what it looked like.
Any tips on placement in hdr environment are welcome. I tried a finite sphere but couldnt get her out of shadow. I think the shadow probably looks better than direct Sun anyway.

If the shadow is part of the HDRI itself, it'll probably fight you the whole time, trying to get placement right and making it look good too will be chore. Have you tried maybe throwing some tree like shadows on the subject as well? There are a few products that might also help you get what you're looking for here.
May 31, 2018 at 8:01 PM #624612The shadow doesn't seem to apply to her body properly, is it a true palm tree shadow? I would think there would be more light and dark areas, it looks very uniform across her body, ie... no leaf shadows.
Maybe add a palm tree from one of the kits out there, and put a light at the angle above her? Is it actual sand/beach object or a background picture? If it's a background, forget it, it wont shadow properly on the ground
May 31, 2018 at 9:40 PM #624680The entire image is an hdr other than the model.
trying to place the model inside it as a finite sphere was difficult since moving around changed how large and small she appeared. Only rotating the sphere moved the light.
June 1, 2018 at 5:01 PM #625616I hate to say it because the image looks great as a background but as a HDRi it sucks if it's going to put your figure in the perpetual shade. I'm going to show my ignorance here but is there a way to use another HDRi for the lighting while using that one for the background/environment?
Or else as I say before, block out the shadow on the sand so that it looks like she's under some cover of some kind. Without that the difference in lighting just removes the figure from the environment.
June 1, 2018 at 11:31 PM #625915Only way I would guess to use 2 HDRs is to render it twice and combine them. Something I am in the middle of trying ATM. Or maybe slap one on a object and use it as a light source.
