I basically up until the past couple weeks used poser exclusively, but have started with DS. I know there are issues with smart content, but that's not even my problem. I'm not sure if I installed something in the wrong place or what or maybe the order mattered?
So I have G8 essentials installed, though this is where I'm wondering if I missed something vital. The essential packs I installed in my base runtime (other runtimes are under that) as I have always done (I think I originally did this because of Poser script issues; I can't remember why for sure). So assuming all I had to install were the essentials, I have it it in /PP2018/. All of the characters are installed in /PP2018/G8F. All of it was installed with DIM which I want to use.
So to begin with for some reason Genesis 8 Basic Female (and G3F which is odd) doesn't show up as an icon in smart content, yet G8M does. But after being told on the forum in my other post that smart content doesn't always work right, I ignored this.
So I load G8F basic and she seems fine, except under parameters and shaping, none of the characters show up to change her shape except for Victoria 8. I thought maybe I accidentally loaded V8 differently, but she is under /PP2018/G8F just like the others.
So instead I tried to load by the content library, but all that does is change the texture. If I load them directly from there, it looks like they are still the base G8F morph.
So something is wrong somewhere. I tried uninstalling g8 essentials and reinstalling. I even tried also installing them into /PP2018/G8F/ and loading gf8 from there, but she doesn't even show up under people in that runtime.
I am so lost. I obviously did something wrong somewhere. I did I think install some of the characters before g8 essentials, not sure if that matters.
ETA: G3F same problem. I'm going to see if the same thing happens with G8M since he is showing up under smart content, but I haven't loaded any of the male characters yet, so that's my next thing to do as soon as I can.
January 25, 2018 at 10:33 pm #472809I don't know about loading into Smart Content as I personally don't care about having my files there, however, if its a must for you, here is at least a way to load your content by hand into your Content Library until you figure out how to get Smart Content.
January 25, 2018 at 10:57 pm #472824Thanks, but that doesn’t help me. I want to use DIM and everything is set up in my runtimes because I use poser; I can’t reinstall everything into a library folder. But regardless, that’s still the structure I kept under the other runtime directories that are loaded into DS just not in “my library” folder.
My biggest concern is why is G8F characters/morphs not loading. I can use the content library if I have to, but it’s just not working.
I thought maybe I did something wrong, in the sense, does it matter that G8F is in a different runtime than the G8F characters? It never did in poser (as I didn’t use DS before I have no clue if it worked in DS before). V8 seems to be the only one that works.
Shouldn’t the characters (Charlotte, Stephanie, etc.) show up under shaping/parameters when I load G8F?
January 26, 2018 at 12:06 am #472864I believe DS has a different filing system than Poser. When I tried to load into DS the way I did into poser, nothing would show up. So I had to do it the way I did above. When you download DS, you get the base G8F figure for free too, and its going to be in the smart content folder.
January 26, 2018 at 1:03 am #472939OMG. I figured out my whole issue and it was one little stupid mistake I made that was screwing everything up. I was loading G8F from the main directory (fine regardless of not showing up on smart content), but then when I loaded the character, say Charlotte, I was loading it from the correct runtime (G8F) but UNDER the base runtime in the tree layout. In other words, I didn't realize I didn't add G8F as a completely separate runtime into DS!
Now it's not constantly saying files are missing either...
