This is probably going to piss somebody off, but it happens to the best of us, and where else am I going to bitch about it?
I'm getting burnt out the sheer volume of figures who are perfectly sculpted, symmetrical, large-breasted top-model and porn star candidates. It's ridiculous. I barely even pay attention to which figures I use anymore because 80% of my female figure collection look like clones or close relatives of each other. Thousands, it seems, of D-cupped, doe-eyed, full-lipped, clear-skinned vixens with little more variations than nose angles and eyebrow thickness, hands and feet are nearly universally uniform, and all they do is change the name and paint on some makeup that looks different (although often not different enough).
And what's more, the sheer amount of people using these models for no real artistic purposes than to show off or accentuate the sexual appeal is off-putting. Curves and skin always appear to win contests (no, I'm not bitter about a contest; I enjoy them very much and always profit from them). I've stopped telling my friends I use Daz3D, because they instantly assume I'm making jerk-off material.
I guess one man's trash is another man's art, I get that. But I'm not a teenager, and it would be fantastic if the industry as a whole would mature a little bit.Okay, I'm done.
Bring on the offended responses.January 25, 2018 at 6:04 am #472014I've been thinking the same thing for YEARS. Dazstudio is a joke. Mostly. There are a select few who actually create things worth looking at with the program, everyone else just makes homemade porn, or worse... much worse.
It's sad there's such a deluge of crap from Daz, their genesis figures are actually quite fantastic. It's hard to find the gems amid the massive volume of balloon titties.
January 25, 2018 at 6:04 am #472015I'm with you, I don't get why so many people make not only trashy porn, but really bad trashy porn, when DAZ is so much more capable than that.
I tend to use a bunch of male models, and I also like using the child models. THe real shame for me is the lack of off the shelf clothes for males so I end up using the same few outfits over and over.
January 25, 2018 at 6:08 am #472017Thank you.
I really was wondering if I was the only person who felt this way.January 25, 2018 at 6:15 am #472020It took me months to track down 40s/50s style menswear, and even still my collection is so small I have to re-shade/-texture a lot to stretch it out. I'm still lacking a descent period fedora (all I'm finding is stupid modern trilby's that are popular now (usually associated with basement dwellers.)
Hell, finding ANY classy menswear takes an amount of digging.
When I started working in 3D, 7 months ago, I assured my girlfriend it wasn't just for perverts, but as she watched me comb through asset sites, I knew my argument was lost. "Where are the men, then?"
"I don't know, honey. I just don't know."I still can't find any postwar cars that aren't super-low poly, and so I'm restricted to exterior shots, but that's another post, right there.
January 25, 2018 at 7:32 am #472070I tend to follow the small band of vendors that don't follow that trend.
A couple of examples that spring to mind Saiyaness & Brahann.
🙂

Say... that's a lot closer to what I'm looking for... I like that includes the femal wide-brim, too!
Thanks for the heads up!January 25, 2018 at 11:38 am #472203AnonymousInactiveRank:Anytime buddy!
January 25, 2018 at 11:41 am #472205Did you take a look at Mobster outfit ?
January 25, 2018 at 11:58 am #472216Just did when you mentioned it... that's the kind of style I referred to as a Trilby... they have the real narrow brims... it's been hard to find anything with a wider brim, and nearly every fedora I find is that Trilby style... That wasn't really present until the late-50s/60s... I know, I'm probably trying to be way to historically accurate, but that kind of thing matters to me...
I had been using an Indiana Jones knockoff... Relic Hunter? Anyway, I'd just retexture that, but it's actually an Australian sheep-herder's hat with the brim cut short for the films. Still, it's the only wide-brim fedora with the high-crown and bow on the hat band I've yet to find... a shame it's so low-poly...I had gotten both the Relic Hunter and the Dr. Graverobber sets to do Indiana Jones fanart, but they're so low-poly and poorly textured by modern standards, that I'm not at all satisfied with either the placement on the model or the look of the maps, but I've never been able to find pieces right for replacing them, so it's a project I kind of shelved, even though I have a version put together...
God, I do ramble...
January 25, 2018 at 12:11 pm #472221I hear ya about wanting to be more accurate, some stuff is really poorly represented or not even close to what they are calling it. for example Missing Jet well thats not a jet.
I to get tired of all the same looking dolls, clothing, props, environments ect they need to start thinking out side the box and there really is a lack of male stuff out there.
January 25, 2018 at 12:17 pm #472225Sounds like there's a hat niche to fill 😀
January 25, 2018 at 12:22 pm #472231I agree. As a filmmaker, and having been around other filmmakers, it's been my experience that the people who are good with the technical aspects of something are rarely good at the creative side of it. Take myself for example; I'm terrible at the technical stuff.. I don't usually know much of anything about my equipment (my computer specs, included... lol), I'm self taught most everything I know... I opened hexagon once and was instantly overwhelmed (how the fuck I ever learned Photoshop is beyond me)...
Now I really am rambling... But yeah... it seems to me most content creators are just ripping each other off... I don't think there are any dimensions left to explore in the sci-fi/fantasy genres, but by god, that doesn't stop 'em!I wish I could create content, at least then I’d be earning a living with this shit, but I’m sooo burnt out on learning new software… and that’s, what… modeling, texturing, maps on maps on maps… I still don’t understand most of that stuff…
