Kids got me a 3D printer for Christmas, along with half a dozen spools of filament of various colors. I had expressed interest in developing skills in 3D printing a while ago (mostly printing military assets and perhaps expanding my wife's Halloween village assets without incurring crazy costs). Any suggestions on where to find a good repository of free models to hone my skills? Also, does anyone have a good source for tuts developing my own models (DS) and converting into .stl file? TIA (and belated Merry Christmas)

Thingiverse is a good place for items for beginners.

I use Ultimaker Cura for 3D printing.

If I remember, DS can export in .obj (after reduced resolution) working well in Ultimaker Cura but I did'nt use it often.
