Hello, while browsing the requests I see there are some with strange reward amounts, like, 14501 points for example. Obviously, some requesters are bumping them by the least possible amount. Is this cheating the system or a smart interpretation of the rules, in your opinion?. I'm leaning towards the first, but, honestly, I don't have a sound opinion and I'd like to know yours.

The one point is just to bump the request to the first page so that it (hopefully) stays in people's attention.
I did something of a survey a few months back and watched the requests. It seems that the number of points has little to do with getting a request filled. If someone is going to buy it, they'll take advantage of the points offer but if no one wants it, 10's of thousands of points doesn't appear to persuade folks to put up real cash. Remember that points have no value outside of this site so there's no *point* in spending real money to get them.
I heard from someone who does buy the occasional requested item but I'm assuming that it's just to get points for other shared goodies. Filling one request, even a modest one, will let you buy a LOT of items here.There is nothing wrong with bumping an older request.
Given the quantity of requests, it can be very necessary.
