    Any ideas on how to rip a dress into two pieces on both sides at the same time?
    (by the straps on both sides with a rip down the middle)

    That'll be a job for Blender. You'll want torn edges which the mesh grabber won't do nor will it cut a mesh. There's that tool in Studio that will delete parts of a mesh but it won't give you the edges you'll want.
