There is some evidence that consciousness (self-awareness) may be quantum-based, and if true, computers with AI language models will never achieve independent consciousness. Watch this two minute segment.
Does it have to be conscious in order to make "decisions"? My AC turns on when it gets to hot.
If we program AI to select options based on favorable outcomes then the path of least resistance might mean removing obstacles like humans.Lets say we are worried about global warming. The computer sees the cause of emissions as humans using cars. It determines we wont give up gas cars and therefore humans need to be eliminated.
