This is killing me. I am wasting so much time adjusting my camera or perspective view because sometimes, when I rotate around the y axis, it spins like it's orbiting around something rather than spinning while staying in place. I want the thing to remain STILL as I rotate along the y axis as though I were standing in one place and turning around. No translating, no moving around the environment, just turning. I've looked at the Daz forums to figure out how to adjust the settings, and I can't find an answer to something that seems so simple. It makes working on anything maddeningly inefficient when the camera does this, and I'm not sure why it happens. Please help.
August 29, 2025 at 7:08 PM #2143134I've fought with the same problem for decades. It's completely at odds with every other 3D or sorta-3D program. If you get an answer, PLEASE SHARE IT! 🙂
I also wish one could orbit the camera around an object or designated point in space.August 30, 2025 at 1:38 AM #2143179The only way I have found is to always move the camera forward especially if you are trying to move the camera away from an object. Moving away backwards tells your camera to focus your original point.
August 30, 2025 at 6:00 AM #2143195If I understand correctly, then
@hobbyist I think you can do that by selecting the Scene navigator tool (alt+shift+f), then left clicking and dragging. If you only want to rotate aroudn the y-axis, you can select teh camera, go to Parameters > y rotateIf you want to orbit the camera around a specific object, select that object then
ctrl+f to frame (will "zoom-in" to fit the object in the frame) or
ctrl+shift+a to aim (will keep the camera in its place so you won't have to zoom out)
Now the camera will rotate around that object.I use an old version of Daz and things may be different in the newer version, idk.
🙂
August 30, 2025 at 6:32 AM #2143200Dropping the camera in a node might be your ticket. Video 2
I usually just make 4-5:cameras and bounce around to different angles.
September 1, 2025 at 7:28 AM #2143476The answer's here. Praise Jeebus! ADAM and 3dNoob just told me what I need to know. I'm not gonna be that sophisticated as far as dropping a camera in a node probably. It'll be select an object and rotate around it and that will be enough. I'll get where I need to go and be able to think about what I'm trying to create rather than tearing my hair out over this nonsense.

September 1, 2025 at 7:30 AM #2143478Thank you 3dNoob! I really appreciate it.
September 5, 2025 at 6:23 AM #2144029Any time. Glad to help. Rauko has some decent tips and is worth watching.
September 5, 2025 at 12:36 PM #2144063Thanks for those tips and video links. I downloaded all of it and stuck them in my 'how to do stuff' directory.
