This morning I noticed some new content at Rendo made by the team of RPublishing, Dreamlandmodels and (gasp!) BagginsBill. BB, an old Poser stalwart, is a name I've not heard in years. I also read something in Daz forums which mentioned that DLMs has sold all their content to RPublishing.
This is interesting and makes me wonder if BB is one of the 'new' members of Rendo's team (did he ever leave?) and that these three have ganged up to form a power crew to create lots of new Poser stuff that they think/hope will save Poser.
Does anyone have any more information on this?

If you look at the SKUs those are not new models per se.

I suspect they may have had a makeover for a relaunch though.

    They are nice looking items.

    🙂

Oh yes, I'm aware of how old they are as I have a lot of them from the Poser days.
I feel that this may be more of a marketing scheme.

    For sure.

I think they may have upgraded the promo renders, because they look pretty sharp.

@medusa, Jeez...they can't be serious. Most of that stuff looks like it's from the Poser 3 days.

I think there is if they focus on G8,

A lot of people don't get on with G9 & Daz will supress anything that is not G9.

That is a definite niche for 3rd party vendor sites.

Is all this what Poser 14 is supposed to bring to the table? I've never looked at Unreal or any game engine but I know that they have HUGE user-bases compared to Poser and Studio.
What do the Unreal folks use now for modelling...Blender?

The more "professional" Poser got in the past, the more it alienated it's hobbyist userbase.

Weightmapping didn't attract any "professional talent" in the past, and neither did "Superfly" or the "GoZ" bridge.

So, sorry, I think the hordes of professional or semi-professional "3D Industry" artists eager to tap into the Rendo Marketplace if only Poser would support "industry standard rigging", are thoroughly hallucinated.

What Poser needs is a professionally designed (LIDAR scanned with an efficient mid-weight topology following muscle body detail) figure that is rigged by a person who actually knows what Poser's current rigging tools are capeable of.

Given its previous track record, any implementation of "Industry standard" Unimesh rigging tools in Poser will be half-assed anyway and take several iterations of Poser to mature enough to be actually useable.

Poser 12 and 13 already are damaged beyond repair by the removal of Python 2 and the other nonsense they did with it.
(That's why I still use Poser 11 despite paying for both in order to upgrade)

What Poser needs is an attractive figure that makes full use of what's already there.
A figure both hobbyists and professionals ENYOY working with.

Poser (11) already features all the tools it needs to do that. You just need to take the time to actually learn them.
Waiting for yet another "pie in the sky" game-changer "pro-tech" is just a waste of precious time and resources, IMO.

But I still wish the Poser team good luck.

I have all the custom sculpted, custom made, custom rigged figures and props I'll ever need, already.
And if I ever want more, I'd go straight to Blender, anyway.

    🙂

@medusa, You make some positive points that almost give me hope until I remember Poser's history. They've never (to my mind) done anything smart and always seem to shoot themselves in the foot and alienate both customers and artists. If they had this master plan for world domination, I would think that they'd be bragging about it.
Unless....the new folks involved are responsible and are keeping it under their hats. If so, they better have brought along some money to throw into development.
I believe that trying to capture some industry standard and userbase will never work because all the big players are pushing their own standards, and they have the money and programming talent to bulldoze over Poser (or Daz). They need to concentrate on the casual hobbyist by making Poser fully compatible with Daz's format. They'd make a ton of friends if I could load any figure from Vicky Four to Genesis 8.1 AND have them wear ANY clothes and hair from any of the figures. Vicky Four in particular has a pile of stuff that's never been equaled by all of the Genesis bimbos together...and yes, I know I keep repeating that.

Currently there are 10-15 programs and another 10-15 stores used by professionals. There is not a single reason for a modeler or animator or texture artist to move to a dead program made for hobbyists.

@thomasbr, excellent point and one that Daz should take to heart.

I believe Rendo/Poser is on its last gasp. The sad part is, it didn't have to be.

They have ignored good advice about it since Poser 5 came out, so no sense in giving them any now.

Interesting that they're relying on retread assets to help them, when they should have instead taken one decent figure and improved it to something better than what DAZ could do with Genesis (I would've voted for Dawn, since it was built by the same guy who made/oversaw the whole pre-Genesis DAZ Victoria series of meshes, but that's just me.)

    Their loss, I guess.
