While reading an article on /. just now I came across a phrase that perfectly describes what's happening to Studio and Daz3D. It's called 'Enshittification.
"It's when a platform that was once highly regarded and user-friendly gradually deteriorates in quality, becoming less appealing and more monetized over time. Then, it dies. The same applies to software and companies."
Google has done the same to YouTube Ethiopia and now it's not less appealing but a total pain in the arse. Love how they not only introduced ads, then doubled the number of ads but have now doubled the volume of the ads themselves. The purpose seems to be to piss off people so much to get them to pay $10 a month for Premium. Anything I want to watch now I just DL and watch offline. This makes it very quick and easy for any video site.
I have a StupidTube downloader that works well but it's obnoxious with it's constant plea for money. Thanks for the link.
@ethiopia try YT-DLP, works with a lot more than youTube.
https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlpI don't trust downloader browser extensions and while they can work they usually stop working after a while and don't generally work for other sites. YT-DLP is very good too but is CLI only with no GUI.
Yes, YT-DLP is CLI and no GUI, but it can be made easier by making a .conf files and a .bat file with everything you would normally have to keep typing in (such as username, password, paths, etc) , and have it reference a text file with URLs to download. Then whenever you want to download something, open up that URL textfile and paste URL(s) in and launch the bat file to start it with one click.
Internet Download Manager [IDM] also integrates nicely with Google extensions and Firefox.
Not limited to Youtube.
When viewing a video on almost any site [even if they do not allow DL] you will be presented with a DL bar [in blue - sometimes floats a bit] which will have a choice of resolutions to select.
Been using for years - frequent updates.
If a site only offers a few seconds DL option just scroll up and down a few times and extra options are added [it can sometimes list 20+ before you find the full size one that you want].
Very rarely fail to capture.It is evident that DAZ Productions, Inc. does not give a damn about their software when they have a legion of slaves (PA'S) who are robbed for working for them, considered a privilege. (Oh! I'm already a PA!!! I've already achieved success!...)
This situation is accepted by PA aspirants, that is, "I am going to be submissive and sell my work for the greater glory of that company that pisses in my face..."
The same thing happens with Renderosity, Renderotica/RenderHub (it's the same company...), ArtStation, Gumroad, BlenderMarket, etc..., even Unreal/Epic or Unity...
Sales platforms that don't give a damn about quality, but quantity. Perhaps in this capitalist/neoliberal game the most "decent" is Blender, whose code is open, but it still uses the same strategy.
Since I was on the internet, back in the 90's, everything has gone to making money, contrary to its scientific/technical roots of sharing data and knowledge...
feel proud of not having a cell phone for more than 15 years... (The last one wasn't even an Android...). I came back from having a blood test done, and my wife's cell phone keeps receiving WhatsApp messages... Is it so important to write rubbish at 9 in the morning? Is your life going with it? The day I get fed up with cell phone sounds, It will experience a journey from the balcony to the street... (It will cost me a divorce! :D)
And for YouTube, simply by having Ad-Block Origin and "I dont care about cookies" addons for Firefox, not more ADS...@abad, Not all is doom and gloom and rampant greed. There's folks like 3DShards and summoner at freedom-of-art who let others sell on their sites for free or close to it. It's up to us to get the word out to people.
Getting back to the original subject, a lot of folks had some pointed opinions in the Daz forums over the past few days regarding that stupid social media survey. I'm surprised that the posts weren't deleted. Clearly, Tafi has no idea how to run a business of any kind let alone a graphics hobby business. They think that they're going to get kids flooding the place because of what's said in IdiotBook? Because they can't control it, comments won't be kind and will if anything, drive people away.
What IS sustaining Tafi/DAZ, exactly? Is it actually the purchases? (Seems unlikely) Or are they just throwing money from deep pockets at a sinking ship?
YT ad-block-blocking is defeated natively in Brave, btw.
And prevented in other browsers when not logged in to ggl. (There's also this, which haven't tried personally and can't vouch for.)Are you all downloading just to avoid ad-block-blocking, or for different reasons? Just curious.

@Abad, "It is evident that DAZ Productions, Inc. does not give a damn..." Haseltine tells people not to ask questions because he says Daz admin and developers don't read the forums. That shows the kind of interest and respect Daz has for their costumers.@Spats VC money I’m going to guess.
Or the mormon church (knowing that DAZ is based in Utah)
