Yes, but it's a much better mesh than Gen 1. You can get all the details on the Daz site.

    Yes.

Why they revisited that idea, I really don't know.

I'm sticking with G8.1F until they come out with a better option for me.

    🙁

Really eelgoo, i kinda love Genesis 1's concept. get's rid of alot complications that come with Seperate figures, for example at the top of head Clothes, clothes fit naturally to each gender without any converting.

It really depends what result you are after.
    I am into ultra realism.
Male & female body shapes are basically quite different, requiring mesh density in differing areas for accuracy & realism.

I like G9 because most of my characters are some flavor of trans or NB (surprise surprise) so being able to depict them at different points in life without having to fiddle too much with morph transfers etc is much nicer.

I like using the G9 mesh, though I wish the vendors would catch up on a few of my favorite old-but-well-loved tools (Fit Control being chief among them). My only other gripe is that there's no practical way to up-convert shapes and textures from G8 -> G9 (a skin suit - seriously!? No, just no. Frigging learn to build alternate UV mappings already...) I had to pretty much rebuild toon shapes in G9 to approximate what I built in G8, but it's only close (I am soooo close to unpacking and learning Wrap because of this... I have a handful of characters I've painstakingly converted up from Vicky Four to G8! Anyway...)

But yes, G9 has almost everything I want/need, and with a few utilities, I can move up a few of my fave G8 chars, and proceed as usual.

I still haven't found a G9 character that moves me from G8 Female.
G8 male is so awfully rigged and has too many distortions in every bending that I prefer G9 males, but still no fav in my library.
In fact, I feel that thres is a lot of poor quality in almost every item, even from good vendors.
Bluejaunte: one of my favourites. G8 has many GREAT characters (my avatar is one of them). But G9 suddenly has a bunch of ugly bitches instead, made by the very same person... why?
Luthbel: one of the best clothes creators at daz3d... Simply compare de G9 version of 'Eldritch Seeker' vs the G2 version of the same name... why this 'downgrade'? maybe it's not worth invest a lot of time modelling, texturing and rigging those models??

Very dissapointed with the new genesis generation

Me too TBH, but there are now some attractive G9F characters coming out that I would like to be able to convert to G8.1F.

"But G9 suddenly has a bunch of ugly bitches instead, made by the very same person… why?"

Not sure, but most G9 characters I d/l, I only install the textures for them at most. I pulled in a few morph packs and then hand-build my own characters, which actually turns out a lot better than the typical bimbos.

My suggestion would be to get a few of the 3rd-party morph expansion packs, at least one of the SONSY weight system morphs, Young Anime Heroes and a couple other Toon packs, and the Growing Up for Genesis 9 package.

( I especially like the Growing Up package, because it helps me to help make the heads the correct size, to iron out that weird default body shape, to help soften the body to make it more toon-amenable w/o making it look fat, to add wrist/ankle mods, etc. It isn't just for making decent-shaped kids, it's a pretty decent little toolbox once you get the hang of it.)

Kinda agree with Adrian with how characters look, not so much with characters being ugly per say but more about how alot of female and male characters looking so androgynes. e.g males having very feminine features in the face, females having fat in places of body that should not be there simply becuase of the female anatomy etc. it's like they didn't go all the way defining the two genders, just uncanny overall. but i'm sure genesis 1 had some sort of problem like this too e.g genesis 1 base female's didn't look very feminine.

Yes, that is certainly one of the issues I have with G9 & the approach of one mesh fits all.
It might, but it requires a lot of compromise.
Certainly a lot more than I would be prepared to make.

    🙁

I love this explanation and these tips. I grabbed the two packs you listed. I am wondering, on the subject of "a couple other Toon packs" Could you perhaps specify exactly which toon packs you use/have/like? I'd help me a lot.
