There used to be a fair few Russian free download sites which dealt with a whole plethora of media: Clip Art, 3D, Magazines, books, software, images etc.

Allday was one I remember which seems to have vanished again.

There were others, but I can't remember any names of them now.

    Anyone any idea?

    🙂

Same here. There was one site that reliably released PDFs of print computer magazines like clockwork. It's been gone for years so I've purged my bookmarks of it and a few others. I found that most had crappy 3D releases. The 3D files looked to have been converted/hacked by an Asian digital sweatshop because all filenames where in Chinese and none of the internal links to textures and maps worked. Worse yet, the models where all one big mesh. I wasted much time trying to break up a beautiful model of an ornate bedroom but finally gave up.

Both of these are still going but they don't have anything that's not somewhere else first...and more reliably.

I am pleased it isn't just me then.

The ones I am referring to weren't torrent based sites though.

    They had download links.

You would have thought with all the russian sabre rattling about piracy, they would be all over the place.

    Here's a couple that I remember....

    shadowcore.ru
    gfxstuff.ru/

Don't know if they're still operating. Their download options sucked.

This is a torrent site that a ton of stuff. Haven't used it in a while. Not 3D oriented tho anyways....

@eelgoo, small sites really died. All of the above now lives on torrents. One of the largest has already been named. Another one that I also use https://nnmclub.to/forum/index.php
By the way, there you can find a lot of 3d tutorials in English.

TBH I don't really want to go back to torrents, but if that is the only retrograde action, I suppose I might have to consider it. :0/

@yngvarr, that site does not translate with Google translate. There is a teeny-weeny, itty-bitty little English thread but there's almost nothing there. Do you have a way to translate it?

If I were to return to torrenting, what is the current favoured client?

    @eelgoo

I'd say good old µTorrent 2.2.1, the last clean version. Small (400 Kb), fast, portable 🙂

    µTorrent 2.2.1

@ethiopia, usually it is enough to enter a search query for the software or tutorial you are interested in. Other information from the distribution can be translated by copying and pasting into Google Translator.

This index site has links to all kinds of free and piratey stuff: fmhy.pages.dev

It gets updated very frequently. More info is at this reddit group: reddit.com/r/FREEMEDIAHECKYEAH
