Made some clothing in Blender for g8m and can rig it / weight it properly in blender but don't know how to transfer to Daz... Can import the fbx with textures just fine but don't know how to transfer mesh data or whatever in Daz... are there any resources like tutorials or tools for getting clothing from Blender to Daz? Thanks
May 12, 2023 at 2:58 PM #1970168There seems no end-to-end tutorial of making a clothing product from Blender to Ds on youtube or somewhere else... You may first check Sickleyield channel on youtube. She ever made some simple tutorials related to Blender / Ds.
SOP:
1. You import a single obj or fbx from Blender to Ds;
2. Use Transfer Utility in Ds to transfer rigging and weight from Genesis figure to the garment. Rigging and weight that you did in Blender won't help with fitting a garment to a figure in Ds. In other words, you have to do and tweak them in Ds.
3. Making Full Body Morph and fixing JCMs for the garment, etc.: refer to Scikleyield's video.
4. If you wanna add dForce to the garments, search 'dForce modifier Daz' on youtube.I'm also a Blender user but I use MD to make garments while just use Blender to make or fix morphs. MD is much better and faster than Blender in terms of making garments...
May 13, 2023 at 3:44 AM #1970368Thanks for the reply and I'll definitely check out Sickleyield's videos.
The main reason for using Blender is that I'm already fluent in everything Blender and I don't need to move from there to get a finished result.
Perhaps I will try MD though because I did see a video going from MD to Daz that looked significantly easier than Blender to Daz.
Will check out dforce mod after I've actually got the thing rigged, wish me luck!
May 13, 2023 at 9:39 AM #1970557I'm also a 'Blenderist' but after 5 minutes in MD haven't touched Blender for clothes again. It works sooooo well.
I read that the draping(?) engine that's used in MD will be incorporated into Blender at some point so it may be possible to have the same capabilities in Blender soon.May 13, 2023 at 9:54 AM #1970563@charlisays Yea, NP~ just take your time and wish you good luck!
@ethiopia If so, looking forward to the 'new feature'.May 15, 2023 at 1:18 AM #1971338I've been trying to find the answer to an equivalent question for rigging clothing in Maya and taking that into DS... still hunting for that answer.
The more I learn about Daz the more I get the impression they've just fallen behind other software packages in terms of feature sets, integrating with other industry software, and so on...
May 15, 2023 at 10:15 AM #1971470@fleshkage, You said a hard drive full there. Studio is sooooo far behind all other programs and getting further behind all the time. The popular chat says that all the bridges they made was their attempt to offload programming to the other programs. They hoped that folks would buy from Daz then use the items in Blender, Maya, Unity, etc. They don't realize that those communities are already well served with their own content artists, AND that those communities won't tolerate Daz's proprietary HD map thingy. Next Daz tried to make a billion with NFTs. That of course collapsed. Now they're stuck with their promise of Studio 5. Few think it's gonna happen. Now AI is coming along like a juggernaut.
Keep all your stuff backed up and make sure you have the installers for as many versions of Studio as you can.May 16, 2023 at 12:25 AM #1971661I've got a 5TB portable HDD for backing up DAZ stuff... but I don't have an installer on there now that you mention it. Good call, I'll throw that on there too.
May 30, 2023 at 5:44 AM #1978180A vendor needs to make an updated tutorial series, the old sickleyield (daz store) one is fairly useless
May 30, 2023 at 6:13 AM #1978185I can't help getting the feeling that the past month I've spent learning automatic1111 would have been better spent learning Blender. If nothing else, at least I now know I'm not too old to teach myself something completely new from scratch. And no.... this isn't an opportunity to pile on about how much you hate SD 😊. Different isn't necessarily bad, just different.
May 30, 2023 at 8:01 AM #1978218auto1111 and SD are pretty good, but they don't serve much purpose for me. And it gets a bit samey. As in all the pictures start to look the same.
If it were further down the line and there were more diversity in models/prompting then it'd be better.
If I could have consistent characters in a turnaround sheet or something like that It'd be worth the time. Then I could actually use the AI stuff as reference for 3d modeling.
Blender is fantastic, not much else to say about that other than go learn it! 🙂
