Just had a huge potion of my collection wiped out by the good ol shit quality of Seagate drives (only brand I have HDD issues with ever) and lost 2.5 TB (~40%) as I was starting to back it up again after my previous back up was damaged. I'll continue cataloging and uploading unique items I have on here for posterity. but I'm just losing the urge to hunt stuff down now a days especially with the stuff I'm usually after (older pre Daz studio days) becoming increasing harder to find or get people to re-upload when it does go down and the amount of stuff being purposely not shared despite being so in the past.
March 20, 2023 at 2:20 AM #1943690I know exactly how you feel. I lost a huge portion of my library early last year. There are still some items that I haven't been able to hunt down; mainly old stuff that I bought off RDNA. Then, if that wasn't disheartening enough, I somehow lost the entire library off one of my new external drives. I managed to recover most of it with DMDE and saved it to a new drive but there are still a few damaged or missing assets that need to be replaced. When I lost all of my content, and wasn't having much luck with other recovery methods, I really felt like throwing in the towel and giving up. DMDE works fairly well, though.
March 20, 2023 at 2:22 AM #1943691Condolences Ma Arn. I have a lot of old things for V3/V4 and earlier so if there's something specific you need I might be able to help you out.
March 20, 2023 at 7:11 AM #1943712I've been doing this since 2000. I may be able to help, as well.

All might not be lost...
I have had success with swapping out the PCB of a Hard Drive and, after having the bios chips placed on the new board, you (or at least I) was good to go.
The bios chips from the old board that have to be soldered onto the new one.The PCB's vary in price... I thought I'd solder mine... but I ended up just going to a place that repairs iPhones and had them do the switch.
Your mileage may vary, of course

March 20, 2023 at 12:38 PM #1943908Every HDD I've seen go down with a head crash was a Seagate. WD is the way I go. Even better, SSD if you can afford 'em.
March 20, 2023 at 3:01 PM #1943998I have a duplicate of each hard drive. I have a total of 160TB of HDD/SDD. Last 2 years I also put my files on Telegram private channels. This is infinite free storage.
March 20, 2023 at 3:58 PM #1944020@ethiopia It's data recovery software. https://dmde.com/ It's actually the best I've used. It recovered the majority of my library that was lost through some kind of bizarre glitch on the external drive. Sadly, I haven't been able to salvage anything that was lost off the original HDD.
March 20, 2023 at 7:02 PM #1944055@ethiopia You should give DMDE a go. Although, the free version will only recover a set amount of lost data. I bought a yearlong licence for twenty dollars. I look on it as fairly good value as it did exactly as described. I wasn't too hopeful, but it did recover 99.99% of my library. A few files were too damaged to be fully reconstructed, but they were easy to download again, as there were so few of them.
March 22, 2023 at 1:10 AM #1944544I'm not sure if it's a head crash cause it sounds exactly the same and no change in vibration since it being a seagate i monitor it for anomalies like that. so maybe searching down a replacement board will be a decent choice otherwise i might take it and a couple others to get quotes for recovery cause i've lost so many collections over these last 20 odd years. I'm starting to see what i can still get off other sites for now, but i'll probably start reaching out with trades and offers in requests and PMs as i figure out what's gone for good.
March 22, 2023 at 2:30 AM #1944563OMG I Feel you. Ef Spinning Disks. I moved to all solid state since they are pretty cheap now, and you can get hot swap external bays to put stuff on. I have some of my other favorite stuff on spinning disk, 12 TB worth, and fear the day i lose those drives.
March 22, 2023 at 2:32 AM #1944564I may have a lot of older stuff in my collection as well... send me a link of what you need, i can post what i have as well.
March 22, 2023 at 4:11 AM #1944576@ethiopia Have you tried R-studio data recovery? They do advanced raid recoveries, and everything else. Top notch, ive used this both professionally and personally for many years. Its not free though, but its one of the, if not THE best out there, IMO
EDIT: when I say "best" out there, I mean comparing consumer-level and affordable. There are some superior systems out there, but very pricy and come with hardware as well.
March 23, 2023 at 1:58 AM #1945178good news is i still have the 1.33TB of daz stuff between 33000 and 60000, and was able to save my uncategorized back log and my victoria gen 1/2 era stuff and the daz portion of my A3 collection along with all the torrents ethiopia mentioned. Hopefully this will get me off my ass on setting up a better cloud assisted backup solution.
