Hey guys; just wondering if anyone knows of a product that works better on memory usage than Scene Optimizer does? It's been a bit of a hit and miss affair for me; on some scenes it works perfectly, whereas on others it barely makes a difference at all, which causes fallback to CPU rendering on those bigger or more detailed scenes. If there isn't a better option available, would appreciate any tips or tweaks in the render settings that might help.

Fallback to CPU is far more likely due to textures rather than geometry so reducing texture sizes would seem the way to go if your GPU Vram is limited. I often use the extra small option if characters are not close up.... or DOF. Decimator can help with reducing geometry load but I still think multiple big textures are your main enemy.

@Frank22 Textures seem to be the main problem. I'll give Decimator a go, see how it works out. There are a lot of big environment scenes that render really well - even with G8 characters; the only one so far I'm having huge difficulties with is the Vampire Crypt. After I reduce the maps, then render, it renders in far fewer iterations than most big scenes do, but it looks horrible - full of noise and really grainy.

It's the G8.1 characters that seem to cause the most problems; especially if they're decked out in dforce clothes and certain dforce hair. If only I had a couple of grand to shell out on a better graphics card lol

@littlepleasures Thank you so much for all the detailed advice; I'll definitely take it on board.

Whilst I've been using Daz and Poser for over a decade; I only really used them for rendering various props, animals and clothing (or occasionally a character which I felt looked realistic enough for the purpose) which I would use in my mixed media/photomanipulation art. It's really only these past two years that I've developed a greater interest in 3D art as its own medium, so in a lot of respects, I still have a lot to learn.
