Why does daz not update some awesome g2 products(hair-clothes etc) to gen 8? I understand they want to make money by selling new items but forcing ppl to buy new items with every new generation is imo controversial.

Not to mention that some g2 items dont exist in g8. Or do they expect the artists to do it? Or do so many people use and buy g2 assets that daz does not care?

Actually it is simpler and more reliable to convert the outfit than the character.
And the conversion is not even required. Autofit works very well for most outfits (with the notable exception of shoes that can be terribly misfitted, but converters are not really better). Just fit the v4, g1, g2 or g3 outfit you want on your g8F char, wait some minutes and you are done.
If required, you can improve the fitting with fit control, add a smoothing modifier, or a push modifier, etc
The converter will avoid you to wait for the conversion, but the additional textures are rarely directly available. And you can save your outfit after autofitting.

And to answer your initial question, if daz tried to sell g8 versions of old g2 items without any other improvement, I would really consider it as a scam.

G2 is heavily "Legacy" at this point.

Most items were 3DL (a very small minority are Iray), and don't have dForce.

Only a few content creators "update" their stuff (for example exnem [clothes] and fabiana [some accessories]) and probably only for the items that sold really well.

Also, hair > would require to remake the product almost entirely (G2 hair tends to be low poly), so probably just some clothes and accessories would do.

Do anyone know why shoes are always (for me at least when using Autofit) impossible to convert correctly?

They deleted the ankle bone in G8F

I don't know why they did that. :0/

    @eelgoo Ah, OK!

Probably the same reason for changing the default pose between G3 and G8: it makes previous items useless until a third party comes with a solution.

To address the reason why a lot of G2 items never got made/converted for G8, the reason is dumb, but innocent: The individual creators didn't do the conversion/upgrade on the clothing item.

DAZ doesn't make all the stuff they sell - they only make a small fraction of it. The majority is made by independent vendors who consign the items for same on DAZ' site.

It is far easier to convert the clothing, and to be fair, the projection morphs do a pretty good job in converting old stuff to new bodies.

The sad part is, there are a lot of characters and skin textures that I would love to see re-made for the G8 frame - most of them toons.

@kinkygr: It's not up to Daz to port items between generations, that's the creator's domain, if they so choose. Which they almost never do.
Daz is only a brokerage (for the most part).
