1.) Is there not a forum for ZoneGfx techie stuff?
2.) I have noticed some items I was kinda sure that I had downloaded from this site. There is a couple of sites I have used a few months ago, most over a year or more, so I thought I must have DLd the assets via them. Now I am looking at assets I know, 1, I had DLd, 2, because I had begun looking into them recently I knew I had to have done the DLing here.
These items are saying "Show Download Link" instead of the link to DL the asset. For instance the Orestes Iray HDRI Skydomes, many I DLd because I am probably going to use in my game thus I wanted to make sure they will look good.
Normally I'd have backups on my HDD, though recently I ran out of room on my HDD, so I began moving several directories to the other drive. Evidently, through some idiocy on my part, I lost every free item I had acquired which I had placed in one folder. Thinking (hoping) that was the extent I continue rendering, looking for the free assets I had lost, but...
So, have I lost what is left of my mind, have you heard something similar from other people, or do you see this a possible issue your SW could be causing.
Kinda hoping it is not my mind going bye-bye ;).
January 6, 2020 at 3:01 AM #1413461Are you trying to say you saved the "Download Links" instead of actually physically downloading the items at the moment you got them? As everyone knows, products with MEGA or other links get reported every day, and some get pulled down, and new links are replaced, but not always. I have had several items I have shared be pulled off MEGA for DMCA complaints and they were flagged by name in the future at MEGA so I just put them with another name on another service.
The way you worded your post is a bit confusing, I am assuming you saved the download links and now they no longer work. I have thousands of assets but I download them immediately and pack them up safely on an external set of archive hard drives, so I can find them in seconds based on their SKU numbers.
Part of what you are describing sounds like you didn't download them but saved only their download links - then clicked on them later when you wanted the item, and the item was no longer available at that link anymore, or as with many things, the items are no longer listed. ZoneGFX pulls items if they are not replaced with new links over time. So that is bound to happen. Hence download it physically immediately on the day it shows up on the site, or risk not getting it again.
I hope this helped, or maybe not. I'm not sure.

January 6, 2020 at 4:03 AM #1413510I always download the assets and have an HDD to store them on. Unfortunately, I was moving some of the files to another HDD (this being the only time I could have lost any files), I did notice I misplaced an entire directory of free assets I have gained from sites like Renderosity, ShareFX, etc. I did not notice the missing directory until after I have emptied my Recycle Bin several times for another reason.
I may have mistakenly lost the ones DLd from you site as others, those being tested for my game. Those that fail any inspection I toss of course. Those that I want to use on this game I keep until I purchase the asset in question.
It troubles me to pay multiple times for the same item. It there a way to flag those who have purchased the content once to have their order updated? I know this will require getting into the code and all.
Once I get my point reservoir built back up (had a couple thousand and went off spending spree a couple of days ago till I ran out of points. I look for those missing files (and new ones). 😉
January 6, 2020 at 4:04 AM #1413512FYI: Once you 'purchase' an item on Zonegfx, the 'download' link will remain for 30 days only. After that time, it reverts back to the Show Download Link button.
It's best to download immediately, as Murphy's Law is always in effect. In addition, it's best to save the URL to the actual page (MEGA, etal) from which you will download. There is no guarantee that the link won't become compromised.
January 8, 2020 at 7:48 PM #141727930 days. 🙂 yeah, 3Demon is right. Save the mega link. Save the install. I have a 6TB external drive just for software and downloads of stuff that expires (Mostly graphics stuffs). I've had conversations with hunter or tomsk, i forget, about the same thing. There is a good reason behind it, the site database gets way to large to manage everything, so after you 'purchase' something, you have 30 days to download it, then it's TTL expires and the history of the purchase is removed. Otherwise, the db would grow and groooowwww and grooooowwwwwww, and site performance would go down.
