so i load a character that was posted on another forum that someone made. they have an iray dome activated for lighting the character. my question how do i turn the dome "off"? i like working with nvidia iray selected so it renders in real in my perspective view. so i want to turn the iray dome off so it speeds the work flow up and then turn iton when it is time to start working with the lighting. how do u do this? thanks

just pick "Texture mode" in the viewport. No need to turn the dome off or anything for that.

If you DO want to turn the dome off, note that that won't actually do anything to the Iray Viewport, apart from making the dome invisible - it'll still eat up the same amount of resources, as the light is still calculated, even with an invisible dome. If you want to turn off BOTH the dome and the light, set the Environment to "Scene only" in the render settings.

ok thanks. i know about just changing it to textured but i did not want to do that. now i am still new to using iray domes but is the dome always active when u choose the nvidia iray option for display in the viewport?

Yes. You can, as I said, remove the HDRI on the dome, which will reduce load a bit, but it'll also remove the light from the HDRI. Basically, unless you have a powerful graphics card (1070 minimum, preferably better), working in Iray Viewport isn't a great option. You can reduce the graphics a bit in Iray, to reduce a bit of the load. Press F2, and go to Interface. Turn stuff over to performance, the Display Optimization, turn off per pixel shading, and so on.
