Horten HO 229 Nachtjager (Poser, OBJ & VUE)

The world's first turbojet powered flying wing. The HO 299 (aka Gotha Go 229) was designed by the Horten brothers in 1944.

While created from what few materials were available towards the end of the Nazi occupation, this aircraft was surprisingly technically advanced. The centre section was made from welded steel-tube covered in plywood, apart from the area surrounding the two Jumo 004B turbojets and the exhaust where metal was used. The wings were also made solely from wood, with the outer wing leading edges being formed from a very strong but simple composite material, wood shavings compressed with resin.

During the first official powered flights in early 1945, the aircraft reached nearly 500mph in level flight. However on April 14th, 1945 the Gotha facility at Friederichsroda was taken by the American 3rd Army and the design ceased. US troops found various Ho 229's here and at other locations, in varying stages of completion. The most complete aircraft (Version 3) was assigned the number T2-490 and was shipped to the United States, where it can found today in the collection of the National Air and Space Museum (NASM) in Washington D.C.
Had these aircraft gone into production, carrying just one 2,200 lb. bomb, they could have reached a top speed of 590 mph at sea level and 607 mph at 39.000 feet. With a ceiling of 52,500 feet, and a range of around 1180 miles, they would have been a serious challenge to the allies. The most interesting, and accidental, design of these aircraft is that they would have been very difficult to detect by radar.

The Poser model is a composite of the various historical versions and features the high quality features you expect and always get from Vanishing Point. For further customization, many of the Nachtjager's part can be hidden or shown. For example, if you don't want the front aerial or bomb racks, simply use an enclosed hide/ show pose to hide or show the body parts.
The product also includes a bonus: Henschel Hs 298 (Type 1) props- the world's first Air-To-Air Missiles.
