So.. took me a while to figure something out, but this is the result.. Its inspired by some friends who have a large acreage in the foothills west of us. One of the outbuildings is an A-Frame they use for guests and/or entertaining. The neat thing is that after dusk you can pretty much always see some deer and other wildlife from
the living room.. Have to admit this one as a real challenge for my poor old GTX 1650.. hope you like it - right-click and open in new tab for full size..November 29, 2022 at 1:27 am #1895338Wonderful entries so far!
One week left! Enter by this Sunday at midnight EST!

I wanted to emphasize the harsh cold nature of winter with all its majesty and alien beauty. I wish I could do some further work on it but sadly I have very little time.
December 2, 2022 at 5:46 am #1896440I encourage anyone who wants to submit an entry -- but is struggling for whatever reason -- to submit a "draft" here. You can update it as often as you'd like before the deadline.
You may even solicit feedback on the Discussion page or anywhere else!

December 3, 2022 at 3:55 pm #1897007Here's my contribution, I love pets and I like to see how they take away my stuff and put them in a place to bite them later, thanks to them I've lost socks, t-shirts and lots of charger cables :S
I call this:
Let's give them what we took them
December 3, 2022 at 5:00 pm #1897025(How I) Wish You Were Here
Theme(s): Remembrance, happiness in the moment, tribute, peace, gratitudeSometimes even the best jester cannot distract from hard reality and senseless tragedy. But without the jester, without the jovial, what part of us wins the stage?
On the other side of pain and suffering, which will always abound, may this season bring necessary solace and joy, wherever it can; may it give permission to, somehow, smile once more and go on, for as long as we can and are willing, and then longer; and may it remind to truly cherish all that we have had, and all that we still have.
Full UHD above.
2048x1152 here.“Death is always on the way, but the fact that you don’t know when it will arrive seems to take away from the finiteness of life. It’s that terrible precision that we hate so much. But because we don’t know, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number, really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that’s so deeply a part of your being that you can’t even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more. Perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless.”
― Paul Bowles, The Sheltering SkyDecember 4, 2022 at 5:37 am #1897212Tu-tu, I jump into the last train. I won't go into detail about my difficulties, but I spent a few days trying out the options. All ideas were individual and each had its own story. This work also has a history
"A little girl named Mary was looking forward to the holiday, but her parents were delayed on a business trip. The evil nanny decided that it was not her concern and went to bed with a calm soul. Mary, too, was about to go to bed, but noticed that the door had opened. A small white rabbit appeared on the threshold with a smart Christmas tree ... Mary was very happy. She felt the touch of real magic for the first time!"
P.S. In this scene, I decided to use the symbols of the next year, that is, the Rabbit and the Cat, but I used other colors (the black rabbit did not fit into the scene). Behind the girl stand a plush toy Tiger (a symbol of the outgoing year). And of course, a smart Christmas tree, as well as Santa Claus with deer (outside the window), who carries gifts and sent that same rabbit to visit a little girl - these are all eternal symbols of the Christmas holidays. I hope you liked my work!
Sorry for my bad english!
December 4, 2022 at 1:37 pm #1897358I love this old station prop set, and I imagine that many are grateful to be transported around by train during Holidays. I call this: Heading Home for Christmas & Sudden Snowstorm at Badgers Drift Station
Snow System Far, Center- and Rear from the Iray Snow, Ice and Ash pack - is used here, no PS layers. And a camera with low f-stop and active DOF.
December 4, 2022 at 3:45 pm #1897414I REFUSE to miss this contest. I've been extremely busy the past weeks, though this morning before leaving for yet another trip I made sure to sit down and throw this number together.
I guess I'll call it, "Winter's Lake", really didn't have time to come up with something unique. Whatever was on the top of ZoneGFX's blog really decided for me haha! Had been formulating ideas for what I’d do the past month, though time said otherwise.

December 5, 2022 at 4:27 am #1897618Should be entitled finally finished
Except for the fact that I'm still not happy with the lighting, corners are too dark for me.
The theme was that the holidays to me are a time for family, the presents for the younger, the joy of giving when you are older and don't forget the snifter of alcohol.
(edit sorted out some of the lighting can this one be used instead pretty please)
December 5, 2022 at 4:55 am #1897622These are all so absolutely WONDER-ful! How to choose from these? This is going to be hard!
Unfortunately my computer decided to die. It did not like me trying to force it to render, and just quit on me. I've ordered a new one, should be here in a couple of weeks, but submitting a render for the contest is out of the question. I'm sad. But happy too, a new computer for Christmas that will actually render more than a character with hair! YAY!
Of course, by the time it gets here, it will be out of date....
Best of luck to all of you wonderful artists!
All the best to you and yours during this Holiday Season!
December 5, 2022 at 5:15 am #1897623Thanks for all the wonderful entries!
