Everyone here is forgetting that Daz is a company that sells figures, that's how they make their money
I disagree, I don't think Daz should try to be ZBrush or Blender etc. That's just not what people need from this program - you just need an easy way to get your content into ZBrush/Blender/Maya/Photoshop etc. That just isn't their specialty and trying to compete with the industry leaders there will not be a good use of their resources IMO. I think the value is in having a seamless workflow where you're not fighting to import your materials into the other products - if everything stays nice and cross-compatible there's really no upside to them moving the product in that direction.
I'm well aware of that fact, myself. In fact, a number of my points about both why Daz did what it did in the past, what it may do going forward are based on that fact.
Daz is not Apple. Their dev and marketing teams cannot invoke the reality distortion field to sell you the iPhone8 before iPhone7 is practically beyond its service life.
That means, yes, Daz wants to turn over from Generation 7 to Generation 8 as soon as doing so would make them most money, but one must factor in elements such as a bunch of people (pirate or payer) have zero fucks to give about that and what them to service those things that they feel are important.
Personally, I think Daz means to do no such thing. Studio exists purely to sell figures and they'll only devote enough effort to it so that it remains a viable competition to Poser at its price point (Studio is infinitely more valuable than Poser in real dollars. Or NaN more valuable depending on how you evaluate division by zero). But they can't just act like they mean to do no such thing or people will take it as fuck you aimed right at them.
I double checked some of my factoids wrt to the history lessons I was writing, and found forum posts where people where taking every tech improvement in G2 and G3 as a personal attack. Daz, no doubt, knows that will happen no matter what, but that doesn't mean they don't have to try to mitigate it. Having the inevitable sore reactions and hissy fits is normal business. Giving the majority of your userbase the impression that your product release cycle is essentially an expression of contempt for that userbase is something that only Apple can do, regularly. Failure to provide value beyond a shiny new morph called V8 would burn them hard and fail to sell figures.

In all honesty I tried reading through this thread but I got bored, like eelgoo I'll judge it if/when it comes down the pipeline.

And that, right there, is exactly what I mean by Daz has to consider what it looks like when they make a new figure. There's gonna be several hundred peeps like Convoyer here, and not all of them will be as restrained. If V8 doesn't offer a tangible improvement in technology, such voice will carry the day, as it were.
I don't doubt they have all kinds of ideas for making better iClone compatibility and so on, but that kind of stuff won't be enough, unless the majority of their userbase has given up on Studio.
Haters gonna hate, loudly. Daz has to offer something beyond "But it's new" or they won't sell.
I suspect they'll need to offer something pretty awesome, because I'm guessing it's going to be encrypted only, too. Aside from pirate impacts, that'll annoy a lot of customers, which means more loud haters. They gotta appear more valuable than the noisy objectors say.

Edit: To expand a bit.. the above quote is all its about. If it actually is better.. great, if not.. blaah.. not sure how they can improve G3 anymore, of course its more about the $$$ then any actual improvement, but I guess we'll see.

Yeah maybe a Stephy 7 will still come out. I am crossing my fingers on her tooIs there a link for her? I see the morphs for Genesis 8 but have search for Genesis 8 female and can't find it.
